Page 9 Φ Δ Θ Earl W. Gibson '40 age 96, entered Chapter Grand on January 22, 2015. "Hoot," as he was better known by many of his friends, was born January 26, 1918, in Shelbyville, Ind., to Russell and Irene Gibson and was a 1940 graduate. He served for four years and was a captain in the Army Air Force. Earl was president and owner of Sun Reality Company for 33 years, retiring in 1982. He was the first chairman of the Marion County Heart Fund Drive in 1954, president of the Indianapolis Apartment Owners Association for three years, past president of the Downtown Optimist Club, past president of the Junto Club, and won Outstanding Man of the Year from the JCC. He was a member of Meridian Hills Country Club, The Athletic Club, The Columbia Club, Meridian Street United Methodist Church, Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite. Earl is survived by his loving wife, Jane D. Gibson. Bryan Brooks (Buckey) Walters '48, 93, of Overland Park, Kan., entered Chapter Grand on April 17. He grew up and was schooled in Indianapolis. He earned a bachelor's degree with honors in journalism from Butler University. His senior year he was editor of the Butler Collegian and graduated in 1948. Buckey completed more than 28 years in the Naval Reserve. He served three and a half years during WWII and again during the Korean conflict. Buckey spent 15 years as a radio and television personality in broadcast stations in the east and midwest. He retired from broadcasting in 1963, after seven years in Kansas City at KMBC radio and TV. He was a lifetime member of the Musicians Union and played piano, organ, celesta, trumpet, and drums. Buckey, who held a real estate license for 32 years in both Kansas and Missouri, was a purchasing agent for Yellow Freight in the land and building department, retiring in 1991. His book, How to Buy or Sell a Business, was first published in 1974 and sold worldwide through the Wall Street Journal. He was an avid writer of poetry; some of his poems over the years were published in a variety of publications. Buckey's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and other loving family members. Ronald A. Giles '51 entered Chapter Grand on June 5 in his home at age 88. He was a graduate of Tech High School and Butler University. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany at the end of World War II. Ron spent his entire working years in sales, first with Minnesota Mining at the 3M Company and 40 years with his own sales company, The Giles Agency. He was a manufacturer's representative for numerous electrical products. His family spent 35 summers at their cottage at Lake Wawasee in northern Indiana. He loved water skiing, boating, and water volleyball. Ron was able to do most of the things on his bucket list, such as parachuting, a week on an active submarine, and several days on an aircraft carrier. Ron and Marge were members at St. Luke's United Methodist Church for over 35 years. Ron would like his friends to remember and enjoy the times they spent together. Louis W. Disser, D.D.S. '51, 84, entered Chapter Grand on April 28, 2011. Louis was a lifelong Shelbyville resident and a dentist for more than 40 years, retiring in 1997. After graduating from Shelbyville High School in 1944, he went to the Merchant Marine Academy, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, attended Butler University, graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1953, and was later a dentist in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He is survived by Carolyn Tudor, whom he married on January 5, 1985. Capt. John Bryan McKamey '57 was born in July 1935 in Greencastle, the only child of Mary Margaret Bryan and Oscar Lee McKamey of Fillmore. JB attended Fillmore School and Butler University. In September 1955, he entered the Naval Aviation Cadet Program and was commissioned an ensign and received his wings of gold on March 1, 1957. On June 2, 1965, while flying his A-4 on his 21st combat mission, McKamey's aircraft was hit by enemy fire and he was forced to eject over North Vietnam and was immediately captured. JB was released on February 12, 1973, during Operation Homecoming after being held as a prisoner of war for seven years and eight months. JB was the second longest held POW during the Vietnam conflict. Story goes that John said Indiana Gamma gave him the mental discipline to get through it all. John received several awards and decorations for his service. He is survived by a loving family, including his wife, Nancy. Lt. Col. Edwin H. Shearer II, Retired USAF '57 of Piedmont, S.D., entered Chapter Grand on February 24, 2015, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care. Ed is survived by his wife, Kay Shearer. Dan W. Englehardt '56, age 81, of Sanford, N.C., entered Chapter Grand on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro. He was born on February 22, 1934, in North Vernon, Indiana, to the late Charles Englehardt and Martha Wilson Englehardt. Dan attended Butler and graduated at North Carolina State University, where he played basketball. He served our country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Mansfield Englehardt. George R. Rich Esq. '58 entered Chapter Grand on October 11, 2015, in Cape Haze, Florida, at the age of 78. George is survived by his wife, Colleen Sullivan Rich, and other family members. He was born on October 26, 1936, in Riverdale, N.Y. The family soon moved to Indianapolis, where he grew up. He was accepted at Butler University, transferring to Indiana University after his sophomore year. He obtained his law degree in 1960. George spent the majority of his professional career working as a trial attorney as a partner at several firms. George took pride in his service in the United States Army, as well as his political career, which included a term as Erie County legislator in 1974. In 1992, he was elected president of the Western New York Trial Lawyers' Association. He also loved teaching, serving as an adjunct professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law.
