T h e T h e & & WORD HIELD fall 2016 P H I D E L T A T H E T A I N D I A N A G A M M A C H A P T E R INDIANA GAMMA IS THRIVING Undergraduate Members Succeed in Academics, the Community, and on Campus I t has been an incredible time to be a Phi Delta Theta at Butler University. Between numerous awards, strong scholarship, and increased involvement, our Chapter has never been stronger. Here's a brief summary of what we have accomplished in recent months. SECOND HIGHEST GPA ON CAMPUS The Chapter finished the 2015-16 academic year with a Chapter GPA of 3.406; only 0.15 off from being the #1 GPA on campus. The previous two semesters, the Chapter had the highest GPA on campus, which earned us the No. 1 Scholarship Award from Phi Delta Theta Headquarters. This semester, the Chapter started an in-house tutoring program, which aims to create support between brothers, and makes academic help more readily available to those who need it as part of a strategy to recapture the #1 GPA on campus. PHILANTHROPY After strengthening sponsorship connections with local businesses, we were able to have the most successful single day fundraiser in Chapter history and raised more than $3,100 during our philanthropy week this fall. Our Chapter is also uniquely positioned to make a push for Iron Phi status this year. Since July 1, the men of Phi Delta Theta have raised $2,200 for the Iron Phi project, nearly matching our total for all of last year. With $7,800 still needed to obtain Iron Phi Chapter status, I would encourage all Brothers to consider fundraising and joining the Indiana Gamma team on the official Iron Phi web page. Our Chapter has attended several service initiatives to improve the local community through ways such as nature restoration and animal shelter volunteerism. We received the Community Service Citation once again, showing our dedication to helping others. A SUCCESSFUL RECRUITMENT This fall, Indiana Gamma has inducted three outstanding sophomore Phikeias. So far, we have held one of two recruitment events, which was the most well-attended fall recruitment event in the history of our Chapter with well over 100 men attending. RUNNER-UP FOR KANSAS CITY TROPHY Our proudest achievement of the past year was to be named runner-up for the Kansas City Trophy, which honors the best Phi Delta Theta chapter in the nation with 2,700 or fewer male undergraduate students. Our goal is to continue to improve upon this and come home with the trophy next year. The Chapter also received its second consecutive Gold Star for operational excellence (one of 15 chapters out of 190 total); GHQ Trophy for on-time reporting (one of 33); Biggers Ritual for knowledge and proper execution of Chapter rituals (one of 63); and Community Service Citation for outstanding community service projects (one of 35). TEAMED UP WITH DELTA GAMMA FOR HOMECOMING 2016 In the 2016 Homecoming competition, Phi Delta Theta was partnered with Delta Gamma. After a variety of events, our team emerged victorious for the third year in a row. Additionally, Collin Anderson '19 was named Homecoming royalty, marking the second year in a row Phi Delta Theta has had a candidate win the award. Lastly, our Chariot Team remained undefeated since returning to the race in 2008. Homecoming 2016 was successful and rewarding for alumni as well. We honored 10 alumni with pins marking their 25th and 50th anniversary of initiation into Phi Delta Theta and hosted a reception with food and drinks for all who attended. INVOLVED ON CAMPUS Phi Delta Theta currently boasts two SGA senators and the vice president of student affairs. Additionally, our Brothers hold many executive positions such as president, vice president, and treasurers in numerous campus organizations. I could not be more proud of our Chapter's accomplishments. Being named a Gold Star Chapter, Kansas City Trophy runner-up, and Most Involved Fraternity at Butler is no easy task, and I give all the credit to our incredible and hardworking Brothers. In turn, we would like to thank our alumni for all the support you provide, which makes it possible to strive for these high goals and awards. Please do not hesitate to stop by Butler any time to see what is going on at Indiana Gamma. Yours in the Bonds, Zach Bellavia '18 Chapter President zbellavia@butler.edu (815) 245-5759
