In college, he left his studies and joined the Air Force to support the Korean War. After his service, he returned to Indiana University to graduate in Slavic studies. He married and moved to Arkansas to attend law school at the University of Arkansas, where he was selected to the Law Review. After law school, he moved to Mountain Home, Ark., to set up a practice. He was appointed city attorney and was elected municipal judge, serving 16 years in that capacity. While serving as judge, he joined the Army Reserves. When he retired from law, he returned to active duty with the Army, serving as chief of the language division. richard w. nieland '60 entered Chapter Eternal September 17, 2015. He lived in Houston, Texas. Richard was a second lieutenant of the U.S. Army where he served at Fort Knox through 1964. Richard spent a career in investment management, and in 1979, joined Criterion Group in Houston. Richard and his wife, Janice, had two sons and one granddaughter. theodore L. abbott '68 entered Chapter Eternal on April 21, 2015. He lived in St. Petersburg, Fla., and was a fleet and leading manager for Ford Motor Company. aLumni news C. robert parr '48 has been in a nursing home for nearly two years with dementia. However, his wife of 67 years, Martha, says, "Sigma Chi meant so much to him and his Sigma Chi friends were his TRUE friends." Joe t. atkins '49 and his wife, Jean, are living in Florida for the winters and Ohio for the summers. Joe still plays golf three times a week and has shot his age three times. Lee hodgen Jr. '51 welcomed his first great-grandson on March 18. Lee and his wife, Helen, live in Franklin, Ind., where Lee is semi- retired with Franklin Insurance Agency. He has won multiple awards and was inducted into the Indiana Gymnastics Hall of Fame. michael b. halus '59 is enjoying life with his wife of 52 years, Gini, in the mountains of North Carolina.
