the Lambda Letter FaLL 2016 aLumni newsLetter oF the Lambda Chapter oF sigma Chi inside: 2 Welcome, New Members n 2-3 Alumnus Incorporates Χ Ideals n 4 Alumni Update L ambda Chapter had a good start to the 2016-17 school year. As always, the House Corporation spent the summer getting the Chapter House ready for the fall semester. We took a big step that is not readily visible—we finished the second phase of replacing all the heating and cooling pipes in the Chapter House. Additionally, this summer's project was the renovation of the basement area where the following updates were made: • Updated the carpet in the study room to vinyl flooring, finished with floor stain • Replaced the roof over the dining room • Upgraded the basement lighting • Repainted the halls on the senior wing • Replaced the paneling in the consul suite We also started a window replacement project. We replaced four windows on the first floor and will replace more next year. Lastly, we completed the tuck pointing on the exterior limestone. As you can see, it was a busy summer. aLumni donations needed To keep our Sigma Chi home the best at IU, we need continued alumni financial support. We have established a new annual giving program to fund essential projects needed to keep Lambda competitive. Your gifts will support necessary Chapter House updates, such as maintenance and repairs and the general up-keep of our Bloomington home. Please use the inserted commitment card and return envelope to make your contribution today. Lambda Chapter progress We are looking forward to a great year. The Chapter House is home to 84 undergraduates, which is a good number for us. Last year, we had more than 100 in-house members at one point. The new pledge class has been chosen and Lambda Chapter welcomed 31 new members. Additionally, Indiana University is instituting a model fraternity/sorority contract with each chapter on campus. thank You, aLumni If you are in Bloomington this fall, please stop by the Chapter House. I am sure you will be pleased with the physical plant and great group living in. The Lambda Corporation and I appreciate your continued support. Without you, Lambda's progress would not be possible. In Hoc, doug morrow '74 Lambda Corporation President (260) 235-0389 dcmorrow@ctlnet.com b rothers, on behalf of the Lambda House Corporation, let me thank you for your past financial support of our Chapter, and let me please ask you to pay special attention this year to the annual fund pledge card enclosed in this newsletter. While it seems like just yesterday, it has now been several years since our last capital campaign. There is no denying that our Chapter House, although beloved by us all, is long in the tooth. It requires constant maintenance and repair and also desperately needs some infrastructure improvements to pipes, etc. Just getting by simply isn't good enough anymore. You've probably heard or seen that the Fijis have built a new "palace" just down the street from us. New apartment options in Bloomington are increasingly upscale. We need to be competitive in order to attract and retain the highest caliber men on IU's campus. Please know that we do have a first-rate group of brothers living in the house. Lambda is one of the most popular chapters on campus; our Chapter GPA is one of the highest; our men hold important leadership positions in student organizations across the University; and they have stayed out of trouble. They deserve a house that reflects their standing and our legacy. Please know that all funds raised through the annual fund will be used solely for house repairs and improvements. Thank you, and please feel free to contact any of us on the house board with any questions you may have.
