Delta Gamma page 3 Alpha Upsilon Celebrates Milestone at SMU, Earns Second Place in Academics Sisters Focused on Academics, Philanthropy, and Sisterhood T his has been an exciting semester for the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Delta Gamma. Alpha Upsilon celebrates 90 years on SMU's campus this year, and we have had a fun and successful first few months of the 2016-17 academic year. We have many accomplishments to celebrate, and we look forward to what the future holds. DGs "Do Good" in Grades We worked hard last spring to raise our chapter GPA to 3.541, which earned us second place in grades among all other chapters. We also had the highest new member GPA of any chapter on campus. Philanthropic Endeavors The 2016 annual Anchor Splash event was one of our most successful yet! We had 22 teams sign up for our water volleyball tournament and raised over $38,000. Our second philanthropic event was DG S'mores and Outdoors, which was held in late November. Homecoming 2016 For Homecoming this year, we paired with our friends at Beta Upsilon Chi fraternity. SMU's Homecoming theme was Road Trip Home to SMU, and each organization represented a state. We chose California as our state. We were thrilled to see many alumnae and their families the Saturday of Homecoming weekend at our annual Homecoming Brunch. DGs Lead on Campus We are so proud that two of our members represented DG as SMU orientation leaders this summer. Twenty other DGs were selected to serve as orientation guides the week prior to school starting this fall, and they helped new students transition into college life at SMU. Fall Events At our Lectureship this fall, we hosted a New York Times Best Selling author, Piper Kerman, whose book was made into the popular Netflix show, Orange Is the New Black. We also had a successful family weekend in September where we hosted our own Boulevard tent. At the end of October, we welcomed DG alumnae and their children to come trick-or-treat at the house and decorate Halloween cookies. For intramural soccer, our team was paired with Beta Theta Pi fraternity and won the championship this fall. We hope to bring home even more trophies! Focused on the Future Looking forward, we are excited for recruitment in January and we are eager to get to know our newest sisters. We would like to thank all the alumnae for their continued support and dedication to Alpha Upsilon Chapter. We would not be able to celebrate 90 years without each and every one of you! Thank you for the opportunities you provide for us and for making our undergraduate experience at Alpha Upsilon unforgettable. Anytime you are in the area, please stop by the chapter house to say hello and meet the young women who are following in your footsteps and carrying on your legacy.
