Other Five Star League teams include Redding Christian with 3 players named, Liberty Christian with 2, Bur- ney with 2 and Chester with 1. Volleyball FROMPAGE1 Olawale has made that confidence pay off for the Raiders this season. He has eight catches for 189 yards and one TD and has car- ried 17 times for 47 yards and two scores as he has proven to be far more than a blocker. He scored on short TD runs against New Orleans and San Diego, but has made his biggest impact with the ball as a receiver out of the backfield. His 68-yard catch and run set up a field goal in an overtime win at Tampa Bay last month, then he helped wake up a stalled offense with his big play against the Texans. With the defense wor- ried about Amari Cooper as a receiver out of the backfield in the flat, Ol- awale got downfield and caught a deep throw from Carr. He then ran the rest of the way for the game-tying 75-yard score that helped send Oakland to the win and put his name in the ar- gument of who is the fast- est running back on a team with speedy halfbacks in Latavius Murray, Jalen Richard, Taiwan Jones and DeAndre Washington. "The argument has been going on all year," Murray said. "Of course when you break off a big one like that, he'll think he has the upper nod right now. "I say I'm still the fastest in that room and in the off- season we can really figure it out if they want to. That's if they want to." Regardless of where he ranks on the speed chart, Olawale's ability as a re- ceiver and runner after the catch gives defenses yet another option to worry about beyond Cooper, Mur- ray and Michael Crabtree. With the big plays he's delivered, Carr said he doesn't believe Olawale will be able to take teams by surprise anymore. He definitely caught the at- tention of this week's op- ponent, Carolina. "When you look at a full- back running that fast, it's typically not in this day and age, especially when you talk about football, fullback's more of a stock- ier, bigger type," Panthers safety Kurt Coleman said. "Not to say that he's not, but he definitely has the speed and it surely showed against Houston." Volleyball FROM PAGE 1 27 last season in Denver last Dec. 13 against the Broncos, a game, oddly enough, that the Raiders also won. Carolina, which visits the Raiders Sunday at the Col- iseum, comes in with the second-ranked run defense in the NFL, giving up 81.8 yards per game. Opponents are averaging only 3.5 yards per carry. Raiders FROM PAGE 1 great again. "Ohio State-Michigan is always special, but when you put such brash per- sonalities and big person- alities, guys who have a little bit of an ego with all they have accomplished, and you put them on side- line with all that's at stake it just really adds to the drama," said ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit, a former Ohio State quarterback whose father played for and coached under Hayes. The best rivalries have always been at their most compelling when the teams are being led by powerhouse coaches, whether it was Tom Os- borne at Nebraska facing Barry Switzer at Okla- homa or Florida's Steve Spurrier matching wits and throwing zingers at Bobby Bowden and Florida State. Meyer vs. Harbaugh is not just a throwback for Ohio State-Michigan. "This is college foot- ball at its finest and at its peak in my opinion," for- mer Ohio State linebacker and Fox NFL analyst Chris Spielman. Schembechler was an assistant to Hayes at Ohio State for five years before eventually taking over at Michigan. Their teams played 10 times from 1969-78. Michigan won five, Ohio State four and there was one tie. One or the other won the Big Ten title every year, un- less they shared it. They were gruff and uncompromising. They were the embodiment of Big Ten football and the faces of two programs that in many ways mim- icked each other. And they loved each other like fam- ily, though competition took precedent during the fall. "They never talked to each other during the sea- son," said Bruce Madej, the longtime former sports information director at Michigan. Hayes and Schembechler set the tone for the rivalry some fans just call The Game. "It's like two brothers or two best friends trying to beat each other," Herbst- reit said. Grow ing up in Ashtabula, Ohio, the north- east part of the state, Meyer and his family were unabashed Buckeyes fans. His first taste of col- lege coaching was at Ohio State, where he was a grad- uate assistant in 1986 and '87 for Earle Bruce, the man who worked for and then replaced Hayes as Buck- eyes head coach in 1979. Meyer, 52, said he ap- proaches the rivalry the way Schembechler and Hayes did and wants his Ohio State teams to har- ken back to the Buckeyes of his youth. "I didn't say like, but there's a mutual respect," he said this week. "And I learned it from those two, two of the greatest coaches of all time. They handled themselves with incredi- ble class, toughness, de- manded of their players, and you got to see that ev- ery time those two teams played. So that's my mem- ory, and that's how we go about our business here." Harbaugh, 52, was born seven months beforeMeyer in the same hospital in To- ledo, Ohio. "What a small world, as they say," Harbaugh said. The son of a coach, Har- baugh'sfather,Jack, worked forSchembechlerinthe'70s, and eventually Jim Har- baugh played for Bo. The last time Harbaugh was in- volved in a football game in Columbus, he was Michi- gan's quarterback in 1986, delivering on a victory he guaranteed. "He is one of Bo's boys," Madej said. "That adds to everything that we have here at Michigan and I think that adds to the ri- valry." Ohio State has won 11 of the last 12 meetings with Michigan, including the series only 1-2 matchup in 2006. The day before Ohio State beat Michigan 42-39 to earn a spot in the na- tional championship game, Schembechler, long since retired from coaching but still very much a much a presence at Michigan, died. In the years that fol- lowed, Michigan sifted through coaches and lost itsidentity.WhenHarbaugh arrived in 2015, even Buck- eyescould feel a difference. "There's no question he has intensified the ri- valry," said two-time Heis- man Trophy winner Ar- chie Griffin, who never lost a game to Michigan in his four years of service for Hayes during the 10-year War. "Quite frankly, I was happy to see them hire Jim Harbaugh." In typical Harbaugh fashion, he did not remi- nisce this week. "Just really thinking about the process of prep- aration this week," he said. "Getting ready for the ac- tual game." The Buckeyes won the first meeting of Harbaugh and Meyer 42-13 in the Big House last season. While Harbaugh has never been shy about taking a fellow coach to task, he has traded no barbs with Meyer. They are not close but clearly admire each other's work. Saturday in Columbus one will likely end the other's chance to win a national championship. They will likely never share a bond the way Schembechler and Hayes did, but Meyer and Har- baugh could be about to write the next memorable chapter in one of college football's greatest rivalries. This story has been cor- rected to show that there have been 113 games, not 114, in the series, when tak- ing into consideration a va- cated game.
