Our Global Encounters International Student Video Conference program,
run in collaboration with The Centre for Global Education, hosted over 20
national and international events, through video conferencing technology,
on critical social issues such as child soldiers, women's rights, conflict in
the Middle East, water crisis, and climate change. Each event encouraged students to take the learning experiences and
become active agents of change in their local and global communities.
In 2015, we had student join us from 60 classroom from
Canada, United States, Ghana, India, Taiwan, and many
more. The Global Encounters program not only allows
the students to connect and collaborate with other
students, but also to ask quesions and share their ideas
with experts and guest speakers from the field. This
year, we had revolutionary poets, former child soldiers,
environmentalists, scientists, academics, artists, and
innovators join us to share how they are using their work
to bring awareness to issues they are passionate about.
Thanks to all our partners, guest speakers, and teachers who made 2015 another successful year for Global Encounters.

This national video conference also encouraged students
to create their own campaigns and Code of Conduct to
educate their peers about bullying and cyber-bullying.
Our partnership with the RCMP on Global Encounters
events was established in 2013 and in 2015, we hosted two
live national conversations on bullying & cyberbullying.
We had Canadian students, from 12 different classrooms,
engage and collaborate through 3 teacher-led activities on
bullying and cybering bullying. Leading up to the national
video conference, students connected in TakingITGlobal's
virtual classroom to share their ideas, converse in
meaningful conversations, and receive feedback from
graduate student mentors.
