the lion Tattler illinois beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon • The University of illinois FALL 2016 I t feels great to be back on campus for another academic year at the University of Illinois. Members of Illinois Beta are energized and ready to take on the challenges this year has in store. After going through a membership review last spring, the chapter suspended members who did not meet the standards of ΣΑΕ and Illinois Beta, ultimately making the our chapter stronger. Our future has never been brighter. All remaining members of ILBE are True Gentlemen who set the bar high for incoming members and will guarantee the success of our chapter for years to come. This semester, we welcomed 34 men into our brotherhood, reaching 103 total members. Newly Elected Executive Board The newly elected officers jumped into their roles right after the 2016 spring semester and started planning out the next academic year throughout the summer. This fall, we hit the ground running with new initiatives and ambitious plans. Right now, the new chapter bylaws are being drafted to ensure the standards of membership will be met and all operational procedures are clear and written down. The board is also focused on making improvements to the chapter house and is working with F&H Corporation to make the historical estate at 211 Daniel even better. More than $2,500 Raised for Crisis Nursery We had a great turnout at our annual philanthropy, Paddy Murphy, last spring and many sororities competed in our volleyball tournament and obstacle course. The funds will benefit Crisis Nursery, an emergency- based childcare organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Academics, Community Service As always, the members of Illinois Beta show good scholastic results, earning a 3.18 GPA in the spring semester. This puts us above the all-university and all-fraternity GPAs. Our men are active within the community as well. Last semester, members of the chapter tutored and coached children at local schools, volunteered at hospitals and animal shelters, and helped with numerous fundraisers. Thank You, Loyal Alumni Illinois Beta continues to grow and improve, but we wouldn't be as successful today without the help of our Alumni Association. I want to thank every alumnus who has helped the chapter in any way, whether financially or with their time and advice. The chapter is glad to have such a solid alumni foundation. Feel free to stop by the chapter house anytime; the members are always excited to see alumni and share the stories of the past. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
