the lion tattler Alumni Enjoy Another Successful PAGO I llinois Beta alumni gathered on September 16-17 for the 2016 Phi Alpha Golf Outing (PAGO). Twenty-four golfers met at Railside Golf Club in Gibson City, Ill., for the 34th annual PAGO and teed off under threatening skies. Minerva smiled on the outing and competition was completed with no rain delay. For the first time in PAGO history, a scramble format was implemented for all but the "Group of Champions"; Rich Myers '74, Gregg Werner '77, and Jerry Gust '78 teamed with Larry Gust for stroke play. Jerry once again claimed the coveted "blue jacket" with a score of 80. The remaining 20 golfers competed in four-man scramble groups. A hotly contested competition was decided at the 19th hole with a Peoria handicap system that only Brother Werner understood. The "Chicken Dinner" team consisted of Charles Reifsteck '80, Kim Larson '81, Brett Heinrich '83, and Scott Ferguson '82. Most of the brothers gathered for the post-round dinner in Champaign, Ill., Friday evening, and a handful of alumni attended the misery that was the Fighting Illini football game against Western Michigan. We were very glad to have Deran Abernathy, University of Texas, Dallas '04, director of alumni and chapter services for ΣAE, and Jake Showalter, Case Western Reserve University '98, director of alumni relations for F&H, as part of this year's PAGO and hope for them to return for many more. We're always interested in adding more participants for each PAGO. As our group ages, we'll likely be switching completely to the scramble format. I encourage you to get a foursome of your pledge brothers together for 2017. More information will be shared early next summer.
