The section of road closed is on pri- vately-owned lands. A locked gate was installed by the private landowners at the Castle Dome Museum on the southern end of the Castle Dome/McPher- son Pass Road, and at the northern end at the Hull Mine property line. Currently there are no other roads that bypass these privately-owned lands; however, the Service will continue to look into options. With this road closure, vehicle ac- cess to McPherson Pass and Castle Dome Peak will only be possible from the King Valley Road off high- way 95 past the Border Patrol check station at mile post 76. Visitors wishing to access that part of the refuge are advised to allow for ad- ditional time and fuel to backtrack through the King Valley rather than making a loop through to the Castle Dome refuge entrance . No portions of Castle Dome/ McPherson Pass Road man- aged by the Service will be closed. No other roads are im- pacted; vehicle access to the Big Eye mine area remains unchanged. The Service asks visitors to respect the road closure at the private inhold- ings. Please remember that travel- ing off road is not allowed anywhere on the refuge. Applications are now being taken for spaces for the festival, and they are only $25 for the two day event. Crafters from all over have been coming every year to set up and show off their beau- tiful and one-of-a-kind handmade items. There are still some spaces available for anyone new to come this year. There is limited space indoors now, but lots of outdoor spaces available. Spaces are going fast so please call and reserve yours as soon as possible to be included in this great event. The 13th Annual Quartzsite Christ- mas Light Parade is also coming up on Saturday, Dec. 10th this year. Hopefully it will be bigger and bet- ter than ever. With this being the 150th birthday of Quartzsite com- ing up, it is hoped that more floats will be included and also many groups. The theme is Christmas in the Desert as always, and trophies will be given out in many catego- ries. The parade starts at 7 p.m., lineup on Mesquite St. just east of La Mesa RV. The parade will travel down Main Street east to Plymouth Rd. and end up at Town Hall for trophies and refreshments. Please get your thinking caps on and come up with an idea for a float or lighted vehicle and join in all the fun!! Applications for both these events are now available at the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce so please come in and pick yours up dur- ing business hours Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. AWC hosts Geoglyphs workshop "Guardian of the Geoglyphs" Arizona Western College (AWC) is excited to offer a new workshop Guardian of the Geoglyphs.
