Cooper Arizona Western College (AWC) opened our Quartzsite Campus in 2009, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to La Paz County. Quartzsite is a critical part of La Paz County economy and Arizona Western College is glad to be an educational partner. AWC is at the forefront of bound- ary-free education opportunities, and this campus captures our vision. We are ready for more students, enhanced degree op- tions, new workshops and stronger partnerships with this community. AWC also offers meeting space for clubs, county, state and town agencies to use with the latest in technology available. If you are interested please contact us at the center and we can assist you with the process. The campus is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thurs- day and closed for lunch from 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition there are computers available in the lobby for the public to use at no cost. The campus is staffed to provide information on AWC pro- grams and services in La Paz and Yuma counties. Higher education is critical for the economic success of this entire county and state as a whole. We look forward to assisting you in pursuing your education or enjoy- ing one of our many workshops. Main7pm Concessions Available More Quartzsite T-Shirts needed for QIA Anniversary Quilt By Joanne Winer As part of the Grand Gather- ing next year, there will be a 50th Anniversary quilt made and given to the Quartzsite Improvement As- sociation (QIA.) Their anniversary was last year, but circumstances at the time made it impossible to get a quilt done in time, so it was de- cided to have it made as part of the 150th birthday celebrations that mark the beginnings of Quartzsite next year. The quilt will be made over the winter this year and will also be set up at the QIA during the Grand Gathering in March so the quilters can demonstrate their beautiful handiwork so others can see what it takes to make such a huge project. The quilt will be made up of squares cut from t-shirts that have significance to the 50 years of Quartzsite. Anyone who has a t-shirt that they can donate (or will even buy if necessary) with the words Quartzsite and the event it is from (example: Quartzsite Masters Golf Tournament 2011) and the date if possible for the event. So far, 14 different t-shirts with all kinds of events and local groups ( VFW, schools, etc.) have been donated. Many more t-shirts are needed for a quilted wall hanging that will be put up on one of the walls at the QIA. If you have any t-shirts that can be used for this quilt, or even one that we can get copied if you don't want to give it up, please call Joanne at 928-927-6551 or drop it off at the Quartzsite Busi- ness Chamber of Commerce or the Reader's Oasis Bookstore. We are hoping to get this project started soon so it will be finished before March 5, 2017. If your group or organization would like to be part of the history of the past 50 years in Quartzsite by being part of this quilt, please let us know as soon as possible. AWC updates
