'75, and suzanne Chaffee swanson '78. A visit to the unchanged Chapter house and a nudge from Jan brodie riley '76 was all the motivation Suzanne needed, and as for Kris and Charlene, volunteering for an organization they love offered them a chance to give back. On top of giving their time to the campaign, Charlene, Kris, and Suzanne have also joined the donor list. "I realized that a group of women whom I never met donated their money, time, and energy to build 305 S. Summit for me," Charlene said. "The house was so new and beautiful in the '70s, and now it's time to give back." The women understand both the aesthetic and practical aspect of a renovated Chapter house. Charlene has seen how the physicality of a house plays a factor in recruitment, and to compete with other sororities on Iowa's campus, renovations to Tau Chapter were necessary. For Suzanne, the interior updates are wonderful, but she's most proud of the updates that will last far into the future, such as the HVAC and windows. "I visited the Chapter house for Homecoming last year and was able to see the undergraduates using the space for all of their various projects, just as was intended," Kris said. "Walking into the home, I appreciated how welcoming, new, and fresh it felt." As co-chairmen, Suzanne, Charlene and Kris encourage everyone to contribute to the campaign. any size donation helps, as it is not the amount given, but the spirit of giving that matters to delta gamma. "Much of my adult life was shaped by experiences I had or skills I learned from my time in Delta Gamma," Suzanne said. "I would encourage alumnae to reflect of their years, friendships, and shared values and think of how we can all share the spirit of DG with young women today." All three women have fond memories of their undergraduate years is Tau Chapter. For Suzanne, her Delta Gamma experience in full was most meaningful, but she remembers what a blessing Mom Hall was to each of the members, and how the Chapter served as a big family that shared in the good and the bad. As for Charlene, one of her favorite memories happened her senior year at formal dinner when her now-husband, Gene, took a job as a houseboy to meet her. Kris, on the other hand, appreciated the academic support, camaraderie, and friendships she was able to receive through Delta Gamma. "Look around you," Charlene advises active members. "Many of the women you see will be lifelong friends. Even if you grow apart, when you see your sisters, it will be as if no time has ever passed." Delta Gamma friendships have developed outside of Tau Chapter for all three alumnae.
