Ties to Tau page 4 T he women of Tau Chapter had a very fun and exciting spring semester. We were busy with Anchor Splash, Founders Day, Mom's Weekend, and formal. This whirlwind of the spring resulted in a quick and enjoyable semester for us here at Delta Gamma. ExCElling aCadEmiCallY Tau Chapter holds academics high on our list of priorities. We have been focusing on our new and constantly changing scholarship program, and increasing the incentive to do well. Because of this, we have increased our overall GPA compared to past semesters. We were above the all-Greek and university averages, and placed seventh among Panhellenic chapters. We even had five members make the President's List for their excellent GPAs and hard work. $2,000 raisEd at anCHor splasH As always, our spring philanthropy was Anchor Splash. This is one of our favorite times of the year, as it's truly a joy to raise money for the Foundation and to do it in such a fun way. We had weeklong activities planned leading up to the main event. The first night we had banner making where DG coaches met their teams. The following night, we had serenades where the teams came to 305 South Summit St. and sang their hearts out to DG women. For the final night, we held the main event at the student recreational center pool. Teams competed in a catwalk competition, swimming relays, and synchronized swimming routines. It was a blast to see the teams give it their all, and at the end of the week, we raised around $2,000 for the Delta Gamma Foundation and Service for Sight. rECord-brEaking rECruitmEnt Recruitment this fall was one of the biggest in Iowa University's history, as around 1,500 women went through formal recruitment this year. With that being said, we had to accommodate. We started using the app Bidlilly to count votes and to help make recruitment easier. With this app, we were able to take notes on our phones and electronically vote on potential new members. No more paper counting votes! strEngtHEning CorE valuEs This spring, we focused on pushing one of our core values—promoting cultural interest. We partnered with the Panhellenic Council and decided to participate in a new program called "Get to Know Us." Through the program, we were paired with the Malaysian Student Society. We invited the students over to the Chapter house for a fun Friday night social with pizza. We enjoyed mingling, and the Malaysian Student Society loved getting to know more about Delta Gamma and what sorority life is like. One of the visitors even told us she wanted to be our new house mom. CElEbratorY EvEnts One of our favorite spring events was an appreciation party for our housemother, Bev. We came together and planned a surprise party for her. The whole Chapter was waiting for her to show up to the Chapter house, where we surprised her with flowers, food, and a few members gave speeches about their favorite memories with her. We also invited alumnae from the past few years and other campus housemothers to attend the surprise party. Sisters who were unable to attend sent in letters that we put into a book for her. Another event we held was Founders Day. We had around 10 alumnae attend to celebrate and remember our founders. After the ceremony, we held a brunch and mingled. I would like to thank the women who came to help us celebrate Founders Day, as well as our housemother, Bev. It is your support and dedication that makes these events enjoyable and special to all of us. It is so nice to see you all come support us, and to always be excited to be a Delta Gamma. tHank You, loYal alumnaE The spring semester was full of new experiences and rewarding opportunities. Between raising money for philanthropy, getting to know other cultures on campus, and having alumnae events, it was a great semester! Thank you to our alumnae who have been so generous, helpful, and supportive. Please feel free to stop by whenever you are in the area!
