The military will also be honored for all their service and sacrifices to keep our country safe. The first respond- ers, such as law enforcement and fire departments, are totally deserv- ing of the recognition will be hon- ored for their help. This special area will honor them all- those who lost their lives and those who are still putting their lives on the line every day. They are the true heroes and this area of the Gardens is being de- veloped to honor them all. Several prayers and speech- es were given by chaplains from the Quartzsite Fire Dept., Police Dept. and VFW Post 769. Pastor Jeff Jones, Police chaplain, spoke of his memories of 9/11 and said the Policeman's prayer, and Chief Kevin Hess, who is also a minis- ter, recited the Firefighter's prayer. Preacher from the VFW also led a prayer by having everyone join in a circle around the archway and bells, putting their arms on each other's shoulders to show solidarity and blessed the area. Operation Hero Comfort co-founder Anita Carlson then gave a short talk about the care packages we send to the troops and how much support we get from the townspeople. The service included every group having a chance to ring the bells and some individuals also rang them also. Then Mark Church played TAPS on the flute and ev- eryone enjoyed some refreshments. New Town Manager Jim Ferguson commented to everyone that he just loved the spirit of this community and how people gather together for events such as this one. Special thanks to the Town of Quartzsite Parks Board and Recreation Dept. for all their help, especially Emmett Brinkerhoff, Tom Thomas and Dana Anderson who made it possible for the archway to be built and installed the bells in time for this very special occasion. It is hoped that anyone who has time to spare over this winter will come out and help volunteer for this great project and be a part of the history of the Heroes Bell Gardens. By next Sept. 11. we are hoping to have all the displays in place and all the landscaping completed, so we really need some help--many of the groups who are being honored are also going to help build the displays for their groups. Paul and I would like to thank ev- eryone who came out to this dedica- tion and special ceremony to honor these brave men and women. In ad- dition to honoring humans, there will also be a special plaque for mil- itary, law enforcement, and search and rescue animals who also per- form a great service for this coun- try--We can't forget our 4 legged friends! We are hoping this area will be a place of peace and remembrance and thanks, and are really looking forward to getting some displays worked on very soon. We are also looking for some of the items we are going to need for the displays. If you have some extra cement blocks, patio stones, col- ored rock, cement, etc. please let us know. The more of these items that are donated, the less money we will have to raise to buy what is needed. But more than anything, we need some people who love to work out- doors, know how to landscape or plant bushes and trees, or who can help with the building of the monu- ments. We are planning several work sessions for this winter. We're hoping the displays will be in place and the landscaping done before next September 11 so we can have a huge ceremony with all the groups represented and honored. For more information, please call Joanne at 928-927-6551. If you need someone to speak with after Sunday's devastating news, Cenpatico Crisis Line is open 24 hours/day. 1-866-495-6735
