Main Street Quartzsite, AZ 928-927-6664 Every year, thousands of visitors come to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of- fered at BLM´s Long Term Visitor Areas (LTVAs), where visitors may camp for as long as seven months. Winter visitors who wish to stay in an LTVA, must purchase a long term permit. Long Term Visi- tor Area Permit is required from September 15th through April 15th each season. The cost is $180.00 and is valid for up to 7 months. A Short Term Permit can be pur- chased for a 14-day stay. This permit is $40.00. Permits may be purchased on site or at the BLM Yuma Field Office in Yuma. Summer rates: From April 16th through September 14th, the fee is $10 per vehicle for day-use, $15 per vehicle for overnight use, or $75 annually per vehicle, for up to 5 people per vehicle. There will be a $1 per person fee charged for each person over the 5 person limit. The BLM LTVA opened Sept. 15 maximum stay is 14 days in a 28- day period. Visitors must pay daily fees or purchase annual permits at the La Posa South Contact Station or at the BLM Yuma Field Office. The LTVA was created in 1983 to fulfill the needs of winter visitors and to protect the local desert eco- system from over-use. The camp- ground is approximately 11,400 acres in size, flat landscape, sparse- ly vegetated with plants such as Creosote bushes, Palo Verde trees, Ironwood trees, Mesquite trees and various species of cacti. In addition to existing rules and regulations, there are thirty three supplemental rules which are used to help manage the campgrounds. These rules are published each season in brochure format. Take highway 95 south to the four campgrounds. The campground entrances are approximately 2 miles south of town. For more de- tails visit www.blm.gov.
