This area is to honor the first responders and remember the sacri- fices some of them gave, not only at Sept. 11, 2001 in New York City, or in the Pentagon, but also every other first responder who puts their lives on the line every day for our community. This includes the Fire Dept., Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, Military, and other groups who work in dangerous situations (wildfires, disasters etc.) The Hero's area will have a rock garden planted with cacti and bushes in the center under the archway where the bells are hung, with a patio around it for a walk- way. Along the walkway will be several displays honoring these dif- ferent groups, including a special 9-11 display and another one re- membering the Yarnell 19 Hotshots who died over 2 years ago fighting a wildfire there. The outside area of the displays will have benches and landscaping added. The Parks and Recreation Dept. and Celia's Rainbow Gardens is sponsoring this dedication, and there will be chairs set up in a grav- eled area near where the displays will be going in. You will be able to park in the flat area where the fire- fighters usually set off the fireworks to the left down the little path just after the entrance to the Gardens. There will be several people speak- ing at the ceremony, and refresh- ments will be served following. Operation Hero Comfort will also have a display set up so everyone can see what they do for the troops. This area of Celia's Rainbow Gardens has been planned for many years, but we did not have any volunteers who could help get it together as it should have been so it was put on hold until now. Thanks to the Park Board's support and the Town Parks and Recre- ation. and Public Works employees who gave so many hours of work to get this project started, we now have the archway in place and the bells have been hung. They also spread some gravel to make it look nice. A special thanks to Tom Thomas and Dana Anderson for all the work they did to get this ready for this dedication!! We are hoping that the differ- ent groups that are being honored here will be interested in helping with the design of the displays and if they have time, can do some of the work on them. Most of them can be put together in an after- noon, sometimes longer depending on how many people can work on them. We also need volunteers to help with the landscaping after the displays are in place. We want this area to be very special and hope to have gatherings there several times a year to remember these Heroes and what they do for us. Please come out and show your support and respect for those who do all they can for us and sometimes have given their lives to help us. They should never be taken for granted nor forgotten. The dedication is on Sunday, September 11th at 6pm.
