Mental Health Association Survivor Suicide Support Group Survivors of Suicide Support Group, meets the last Tuesday of every month, 11:30am - 1:30 pm at the Cleveland Memorial Library. Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Cleveland County, this support group offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. All members of the group, including the facilitator, have experienced this unique loss. We are here to teach and encourage those interested in the art of quilting. Visitors and new members are welcome. For information call Tony Darr 704 439 6532. South Mountains State Park Saturday, June 30 - "Tree ID Hike" - Join a Park Ranger for a 1.0 mile hike along the Hemlock Nature Trail. Tree identification will be the focus of this hike. Meet at the Jacob Fork Parking Area at 11:00 am. cackles. Join a Park Ranger and learn about Wild Turkeys in the South Mountains. Participants will learn about characteristics, habi- tat, populations, life history and vocalizations. Program starts at 2:00 pm at the Visitor Center. Saturday, June 30 - South Mountains State Park is located south of Morganton off of old Highway 18. We welcome the community to join us for our monthly educational interpretive programs. Saturday, June 30 - "Let's Talk Turkey" - Yelps, purrs, cuts and Solid Rock Garden, Lawndale Solid Rock Community garden in Lawndale will have regular work nights on Monday evenings at 6:00 pm, now through the summer months. Cleveland County Partnership For Children's Planning Board Of Director's Meeting The Cleveland County Partnership for Children's Board of Directors will meet June 28, at 12:00 noon. Cleveland County Library Summer Reading Program DREAM BIG…Summer Reading - Calling all dreamers! Readers of all ages will explore the night this summer as Cleveland County Library presents "Dream Big – READ!" Activities may include programs on wish- es, dreams, bedtime, creatures of the night, and camping. The Summer Reading Program is free and open to ages 3 to 12 years. The Pre-school program is on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., and K-6th grade is on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. There is also a Pre-school and K-6th grade program on Mondays at the Spangler Branch Library. Polkville Independence Day Celebration The Town of Polkville and the Polkville Volunteer Fire Department will host an Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, June 30th. The fun begins at noon and will continue until midnight. There will be a car and bike show, kids programs, music by Sloan Tones and Dirty Grass Soul, and fi reworks! Hot dogs will go on sale at 11:00am and there will be a benefi t supper at the Fire Department. Everyone from everywhere is invited. For more information please go to www.polkvillevfd.org Holland House Housewarming Shower NAMI Rutherford/Cleveland will host a Housewarming Shower for Holland House Drop-In Center, Thursday, June 21st from 6:00-8:00 PM. You are cordially invited to attend. Holland House is located at: 475 West Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043. Holland House Drop-in Center is operated by the Peer Support Resource Exchange (PSRE) and is a non-profi t organization. They do not provide any direct billable services. However they recognize the needs of their peers. Holland House is a place for adults with mental health issues to meet and talk with their peers; and hang out among friends and people who care when other services are not open. Peer Support is also a place where one can learn about the resources in the community. (This shower will take place in lieu of the regular June Education Forum. Our next Education Forum will be in September. No Education Forums in July or August!) Holland House is now open on weekends (Friday-Sunday) from 1-9 p.m. It is a drop-in center which provides a social outlet for those with mental illness. If you have questions call 704-434-6921. Life Enrichment Center, Stroke Support Meeting Speech therapist Lori McKee will present a program on swallowing for those who have had a stroke at the next meeting of the stroke support group Monday, June 25, at 5:30 p.m. at the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby. The meeting is free of charge and open to the public, for both those who have had a stroke and their care partners. Some of those who attend had a stroke years ago and others, more recently. The Shelby Life Enrichment is located at 110 Life Enrichment Blvd., just off Fallston Road, between Teddy and Meekins law offi ces and Cornerstone Dental Associates. Lost Playwrights Of Western NC Meeting Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina will meet at the Rutherford County Commissioners Chamber on main street in Rutherfordton on Saturday, June 30th from 3 to 5 PM. Anyone interested in any aspect of theatre or creative writing is encour- aged to attend. Fallston Funfest on Saturday, June 30 at Fallston Elementary School. The parade lineup begins at 5:00 p.m. (starts up at Wilson Rd.). Opening Ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. Kids games/rides; armbands $5 (Includes go fi sh and duck. The Town of Fallston will hold their "Fallston Fun Fest" armbands, these are a quarter each) and cake walks will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m.; DJ, 5:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m.; Ocean Blvd, 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.; Fireworks, 10:00 p.m. Food, hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ, pizza and vendors with all the extras. Entries will line up for the parade on Oak Drive/ Towery Road at 8 a.m. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and go up Westlee, Main, and Price Streets. Parade entries will include fl oats, antique cars, horses, tractors, and much more! At the conclusion of the parade, a patri- otic program will be presented at the recreation park of Lattimore Baptist Church. The celebration will begin around 10 a.m. and will include the recognition of veterans and entertainment. This year's featured entertainment is the Max McKee Band. Max is known as the "King of the hard driving banjo." In addition to being a North Caroline banjo champion, he and his wife own the Bluegrass Inn #2 in Shelby. Come early to get a prime seat and enjoy food sold along the parade route by the Lattimore Baptist Church youth group. They will be selling country ham and sausage biscuits and drinks along the parade route beginning at 8:15 a.m. Biscuits, hotdogs, drinks, and homemade desserts will be sold at the recreation park. All proceeds will go toward funding youth activities such as summer camp. South Mtn. Fire & Rescue July 4th Celebration Come out and celebrate the 4th of July at the South Mountain Fire & Rescue. The fun begins with a parade starting at 10 A.M. from Mt. Senior Dinner Club The Senior Dinner Club (ages 45 and up) will meet at the Golden Corral Banquet Room, Hwy. 74, Shelby, on Friday July 6 (fi rst Friday of each month), 6 pm-8pm.
