Los Molinos senior Heather Rodriguez and ju- nior Ulises Graciano trav- eled to Washington D.C. this summer with FFA ad- visor Katie Tenneson to at- tend the Washington Lead- ership Conference. During the five-day event, attendees learn how to become effective leaders by learning their purpose, how to value people, how to take action and how to serve others. FFA members leave WLC with the knowledge and the confidence to act in ways that help their schools, community and their country. "I had the desire to at- tend WLC because I saw how much of a unique ex- perience and a once in a lifetime opportunity it was," Graciano said. "My really good friend (who is currently the State FFA Sentinel) had gone his sophomore year and he had told me it was one of the best if not the best ex- perience in his life." "I learned so much from this conference, but the most important thing that I learned is how to be a leader through serving others," Rodriguez said. "I learned that I can impact so many lives by just im- proving my community." Both Rodriguez and Graciano have a strong drive and determination to continue to serve the California FFA Associa- tion. Both are committed to participating in lead- ership opportunities, ap- plying for committees and panels and soon taking the rigorous steps toward run- ning for State FFA Office themselves. "As a student or teacher, I had never attended this conference myself," Ten- neson said. "Both Heather and Ulises came out of this experience more aware of the world around them, and with even more passion and drive to serve their commu- nity and the FFA." Los Molinos FFA prides itself on the ability to be community minded with leadership as a main fo- cal point. Rodriguez and Graciano's experience has trickled down into the rest of the FFA Chapter and its members as a whole, as the Los Molinos FFA be- gins their year of service and leadership.
