ΣΑΕ Races to an outstanding second-Place Finish Club. John is a godfather and board member for St. Mary's Child Center in Indianapolis and a board member of the AAA Hoosier Motor Club and the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Ind. He is very proud to tell anyone who will listen that he has eight grandkids with number nine on the way, and that he has improved his golf handicap 2.2 strokes over the past year! Buddy Hennessey '73, Russo '72, and Jeff Hoffman '73 Fisher award ceremony. I n spite of leading for much of the day, ΣΑΕ was involved in two crashes, one on lap 28 and then another on lap 102. Both incidents left Joe Krahulik '18 bloodied and seeking medical attention while his teammates, Captain Andrew Krahulik '16, Mitchell Sasseman '16, and Jake Hartmeister '16, fought hard to make up for lost ground. The crashes were the type of nightmare situations that Indiana Gamma teams have faced in the past, and have knocked our teams out of Little 500 Race contention. But even after crashing twice, our team members battled for 200 laps to finish second behind Delta Tau Delta in one of the more adversity-filled races a team could have. "It's hard to be disappointed with everyone's effort," said Andy, a four-year ΣΑΕ rider and three-time Little 500 All-Star Rider. "To come back from all that, that's something I'm going to remember forever." ΣΑΕ entered the 2016 race as one of the clear favorites thanks to a strong rider lineup headlined by the Krahulik brothers, who finished first (Joe) and second (Andy) in Miss- N-Outs after Joe won ITTs. The team also placed second in the Team Pursuit. Even after a pair of crashes nearly left Joe physically unable to race, our team got the scenario they wanted with Joe taking the white flag just ahead of Black Key Bulls and Delts after dropping the Cutters. Black Key Bulls lost touch with the top two coming out of the fourth turn and it was a two team sprint to the finish. Alumni should be very proud of the riders and the effort put into this year's race. The race can be viewed in its entirety on YouTube by searching 2016 Men's Little 500.
