The Indiana Gram Dan Aron '83 Committed to Making a Difference S ince his graduation, Dan Aron '83 has demonstrated outstanding commitment to both expanding the world of investment management and to the Kelley School of Business. It is because of this dedication that he was inducted into the Kelley School of Business Academy of Alumni Fellows. "I was very humbled and honored by this recognition," shares Dan. "When I attended Indiana University, the Kelley School of Business opened the door for me to be able to have a career on Wall Street." It is because of these opportunities that Dan has made a commitment to giving back. "I'm a big believer in giving back to organizations that have made an impact in your life. If there was an experience that was meaningful to you, in whatever fashion you choose, help to continue that organization by giving back. This can be giving of your time, talent, or money." Though the Kelley School of Business played an important role in Dan's experiences at IU, Indiana Gamma was also a significant part of his life. "I didn't know it when I first joined, but the brotherhood of ΣΑΕ was about developing friendships that last a lifetime." He continues to grow those relationships through meeting up with brothers in the New York metro area, seeing other alumni at IU sporting events, and keeping connected through e-mail and social media. Dan hopes that undergraduate members take advantage of the many opportunities that ΣΑΕ and IU offer. "Identify early what you are passionate about and go after it. Be sure to tap into the vast network of Indiana Gamma, Kelley School of Business, and Indiana University alumni when pursuing your goals." Today, Dan is a partner with Levin Capital Strategies, a multi-strategy equity investment advisor in New York City. He remains involved with the Kelley School of Business, having sponsored with his wife the Dan and Maureen Aron Investment Center in the recently constructed Hodge Hall at Indiana University, helping as an active mentor to the students in the Kelley School's investment management workshop, and by serving on the Dean's Council, along with Mike Wells '72. Dan and Maureen live in Westport, Conn., and have three daughters: Alexa, Ashley, and Anna Leigh. You can connect with Dan at Daron@levincap.com. John C. Hart Jr. '73, Distinguished Leader in Real Estate J ohn C. Hart Jr. '73 is president of J.C. Hart Co. Inc., which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The company develops, constructs, and manages luxury apartments in the Indianapolis metropolitan area, and currently owns and manages approximately 4,500 apartments at 20 different locations. After receiving a B.S. degree in finance from the Kelley School in 1973, John joined his father in the real estate business, and they formed J.C. Hart Company Inc. in 1976. Since then, the company has built more than 6,800 apartments, at a total construction value of more than $500 million. Shortly after being honored by IU, John was presented with the Jeffrey D. Fisher Real Estate Legacy Award in acknowledgement of his career of accomplishments in the real estate industry and his continued support of IU's real estate program. John was named 1988 Builder of the Year by the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis and received its Mike Boeke Distinguished Service Award in 1997. The Indiana Apartment Association recognized John with its highest honor in 2005, the Joe Rhodes Memorial Award. In addition, J.C. Hart Company Inc. received the Carmel Chamber "Business of the Year" award in December 2014, as well as the Indiana Apartment Association's Property Management Company of the Year in November 2014. The company was also named an Indiana Chamber "Best Places to Work" in 2015 and 2016. Last year, J.C. Hart Company Inc. set its Big Hairy Audacious Goal (B-HAG) of providing an enjoyable living experience to 12,000 families (building the portfolio to 12,000 units), by December 31, 2025. The plan is to accomplish this through expanded markets and more third-party management. John and his wife, Marianne, live in Westfield, Ind. He is a past president of the board of directors of the Carmel Dads' Club, the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, and Woodland Country Indiana Gamma Brothers Honored by IU T he Kelley School of Business Academy of Alumni Fellows recognizes alumni who have "earned the stature of business leaders and managers by their demonstrated successes in business organizations and their contributions to management philosophies and practices."
