Sometimes folks get so busy with day to day events, some things fall through the cracks. A small group of folks from the Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce, Quartzsite Area Cham- ber of Commerce and Tourism and the Town of Quartzsite met with Scott to discuss options of celebrat- ing this once-in-a-lifetime event. Then they held a meeting last month with over 20 interested peo- ple in attendance and more ideas were shared. A core group has been meeting weekly to brainstorm, categorize, plan, coordinate dates, and pool resources for over a year's worth of events. The group is asking every orga- nization, club, group, church, and anyone planning upcoming events to include the 150th celebration into their events. Events should be sub- mitted to www.QuartzsiteCalendar. com to be included in the online cal- endar of events. The group will create a listing of events to be marketed throughout the state and the nation. The events will also be added to the Passport - Cel- ebrate La Paz County marketing bro- chure, so please send in your dates as soon as possible. It's so much fun to be participating in a group focusing on positive and productive ideas for the betterment of our community. Sharing ideas with creative folks is such an awesome ex- perience...I highly recommend it! The group is working on ideas for a Lasting Legacy Project also. What would like to see for a Quartzsite Lasting Legacy Project? A Legacy Project accurately portrays a signifi- cant aspect of Quartzsite history, is educational and lasting. Some things to consider: the project should 1) ac- curately portray a significant aspect of Quartzsite history; 2) be accessi- ble to a large number of visitors/us- ers; 3) produce an enduring prod- uct that will live on after 2018; 4) include an educational component So get your thinking caps on and LET'S HEAR YOUR IDEAS! You can email your ideas and calendar submissions to QuartzsiteTourism@yahoo.com. LETTERS TO EDITOR POLICY Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers.
