Bill Greer and his team, wife Vickie and daughter in-law Brin, reused his spent nursery containers by painting them with material from the free Latex Paint Reuse program at the Tehama County/Red Bluff Land- fill. This allowed students to draw and write a mes- sage to mom on the con- tainer. Used coffee filters lined the containers to ensure soil didn't fall out the bottom end. The stu- dents planted flowers in their custom containers as a gift for Mother's Day. National School Nurse Day fell on the Wednesday during National Nurses Week, May 6 – 12, ending on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing. Schools and communities joined with their school nurses in celebrating this important day. In Tehama County there are six full time and one part time school nurse to serve 11,000 students. These nurses became registered nurses, completed their bachelors' degree, and then returned to school to obtain a credential in order to practice as a school nurse. (NASN) set May 9 as National School Nurse Day, established in 1972 to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting. School nursing is recognized as a specialized prac- tice that advances the well-being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. More than 76,000 school nurses across the country promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student/family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advoca- cy, and learning. Hurton makes Dean's List Mary Hurton, daughter of Pat and D'Lorah Hurton of Red Bluff, was named to the Cedarville University Dean's List for the 2-12 spring semester. Mary is a Sophomore majoring in Public Administration. Cedarville University is an accredited, Baptist Uni- versity of arts, sciences, professional and graduate pro- grams in Cedarville, Ohio. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must earn a 3.5 GPA for the semester and be carrying at least 12 semester hours. Siperek, of Red Bluff, was one of 233 cadets to graduate recent- ly from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Government.
