Our Urgent Need W hile the Alpha Xi experience is certainly more than the physical structure of the chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters. It serves a proud symbol of our shared values and goals; a symbol of over 100 years of Epsilon women. Our home at 214 North Plum St. has been a part of Epsilon's legacy for over 80 years and is showing its age. At the same time, shifts in campus cultures nationwide, and specifically shifts in culture within the University of South Dakota Greek community, require us to rebuild our home. Therefore, it is has been determined that we must make a major investment in our chapter house if we are to remain competitive on campus. We must provide an updated home that provides a quality living environment, encourages personal and academic excellence, and fosters sisterhood. THE GROWING DEMAND FOR GREEK LIFE Greek life at USD is growing, and our chapter has simply outgrown our current home. As USD continues to attract top-notch students, the pool of women wanting the leadership, service, and social opportunities sororities offer is expanding exponentially. Epsilon has more than 130 active members and we anticipate that number will continue to grow over the next several years. We know connecting in the chapter house is critical to establishing a lifelong commitment to A Xi. Our home needs enough meeting, dining, and community space to accommodate both our live-in and live-out members. A TRADITIONAL HOME WITH A COMPETITIVE EDGE While Alpha Xi Delta continues to attract some of the top women on campus, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other sororities that offer better facilities. We must also compete with the amenities offered in newly renovated on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. By building a new structure that offers the best study space, dining areas, personal living space, and group activity areas, we will be able to compete with the other sorority houses as well as on- and off-campus living facilities. There has never been a more perfect time for Epsilon to blaze a new trail and set ourselves apart from other chapters at USD. The growing demand for Greek life, the ever-changing collegiate member, and the need for increased safety converge to create an urgent need to update our home. For Alpha Xi Delta to remain competitive at USD, we must rebuild the chapter house to attract the quality of women we have called our own for over 113 years. Did you know that Alpha Xi Delta is the smallest house on campus, both in square footage and total live-in membership?
