F
ounded at the University of South Dakota (USD) in 1903, Alpha Xi Delta set
the precedent for excellence as the first women's fraternity on campus. Over the
past 113 years, Alpha Xi has nurtured and sustained women during some of the most
formative years of their lives, cultivating sincere friendships in the process. Today,
this tradition of lifelong friendships and personal growth continues as Epsilon looks
to build an updated living and learning facility for the young women of Alpha Xi
Delta to enjoy for years to come.
Our Alpha Xi home at 214 N. Plum Street is the foundation of Epsilon undergradu-
ate life. It has been a home away from home for over a thousand young women and
a classroom where our sisters practice the values that have defined our sisterhood
for generations. With more than 1,000 initiates, Epsilon has made a lasting impact
on some of the best and brightest the University of South Dakota has to offer. As
alumnae, we can trace some of our best college memories back to our years in the A
Xi house. It is our responsibility to ensure that another century of Alpha Xi women
will be able to enjoy the same memories as us.
While there may be some differences in today's chapter compared to the one you
knew, one thing remains the same: sororities play a significant role in the develop-
ment of young collegiate women. In addition to gaining lifelong friendships, our
members acquire valuable life skills, including teamwork, leadership, organization,
communication, networking, and etiquette. These traits are integral to personal suc-
cess and have helped make us the women we are today. Now more than ever, this
growth is crucial to A Xis' success in today's competitive world.
Alpha Xi Delta recruits some of the most outstanding women at USD. However, if
we wish for Epsilon to maintain its strong presence on campus, we must ensure we
are providing a safe, modern, and competitive facility for future members. Let us
ensure that Alpha Xi Delta is the best the university has to offer. We must continue
to set the precedent for excellence in USD's Greek community.
