Vol. 65 No. 8 The Buckeye Phi Psi Phi Kappa Psi s The Ohio State University s spring 2016 OHIO DELTA INSIDE: From Here and There~ 2-3 • Founders' Day ~ 3 • Alumnus Spotlight~ 3-4 he Ohio Delta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi has been one of the most prominent and well-rounded chapters at Ohio State and is continuing traditions of brotherhood, as well as exceeding the University's academic standards. With numerous philanthropic, brotherhood, recruitment, academic, and social events, Phi Psi has distinguished itself as one of the best organizations on campus to develop young men into leaders. Academic Development Members of Phi Kappa Psi have a 3.18 GPA. This is a slight decrease in performance from the 3.22 the previous semester, so the Chapter has restructured its approach. Phi Psi now runs weekly grade checks for new members and administers weekly social suspensions, as well as mandatory study tables for members who display a struggle in the classroom. We hope that by emphasizing the importance of education to new members, a culture of further academic excellence can be developed. Philanthropy Efforts The greatest improvement in the Chapter has been in philanthropy. Ohio Delta has created a new system where each pledge class plans at least one philanthropic event a semester. Phi Psi has hosted multiple events with proceeds going directly to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, as well as a blood drive. We aim to host a petting zoo to raise money for ALS research, as well as cohost Mental Health Matters Week in the future. T Ohio Delta Chapter Continues Success and Traditions The Louie Room and rest of the Chapter House were decorated for Winter Formal. Brothers enjoyed skiing over winter break. Membership Update The Chapter reached record highs in recruitment, with the spring 2016 class having near 200 men rush. With such high recruitment numbers, we are excited about the incoming class of 26 new members. Regarding new member education, members undergo weekly events, such as Boys and Girls Club visits, basketball games, and more. New members are randomly paired with each other for activities like sports and service throughout their pledgeship in order to break barriers and strengthen future brotherhood between all members of the class. Alumni Involvement The Chapter has attended several alumni events. Active Phi Psis have benefited from such an extensive alumni network and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and spending time with those who have previously participated in the Chapter. Phi Psi hosted a Mother's Weekend in April where members participated in events with their families. This past year has seen the Chapter grow much stronger as a whole. Recruitment and philanthropy highlight the most significant improvements, which could not be accomplished without an increased effort from each brother to strengthen the Chapter. Fraternally, Adam Steinle '14 Chapter President
