NEW WEBSITE DEVELOPED The Iowa DelTa RepoRT 2 T hank you to all of the alumni who put so much time and energy into making sure we had a house to come back to. A special thanks to Doug '72 and Mary Bruce for their generous donation which has made our chapter house functional, attractive, and competitive with other fraternities at Drake. Without you, our recolonization would not have been so successful. It is because of you that the Phi Delta Theta legacy at Drake continues and the renovations shown here are a reality. Thank You, Alumni, for Making Our Renovations Possible A fter the sorority tenant vacated the premises, the property at 1245 34th Street was completely and beautifully renovated from top to bottom. During the summer of 2015, Doug Bruce '72 and his wife, Mary, provided the funding and managed the renovations of the house. It is a place we would all be proud to have our kids live in. An estimated $300,000 was spent to create modern living quarters for up to 15 men. Remember Drake only allows juniors and seniors to live off campus, so housing accommodations have to be top notch to attract pledges and encourage upper- class actives to live in the house. Drake currently has five sororities and 10 fraternities as part of its Greek system. The student population is close to 60% female, so quality housing is a real key to recruitment to be a successful fraternity. Here is how we need your help. Six years ago, in order to convince a sorority to rent the property (so we could keep it for the future recolonization effort) the Iowa Delta Housing Corp. borrowed $175,000 from GHQ at a 7% interest rate for necessary improvements. Today that balance has been paid down to approximately $150,000. The goal of this fundraising effort is to raise $150,000 to pay off the Palmer Fund mortgage and thus eliminate the debt service, plus another $50,000 to create a capital emergency fund (total $200,000). We need your contributions to help pay off this debt. Several Des Moines area alumni have already agreed to contribute $5,000 each towards the project, and multiple responses have been recieved to date from the fundraising communications sent out and an update will be provided during Relays. The Bruce's do not expect any of their $300,000 to be returned, but, in agreement with the Iowa Delta Housing Corp., they strongly feel that the Palmer Fund mortgage needs to be paid off, in addition to creating a fund for any unforeseen emergencies. There are two easy ways to contribute: 1) Use the enclosed pledge card to make a check payable to the Iowa Delta Housing Corp. and send to: Steve Jacobs, c/o BCC Advisers, 1707 High Street, Des Moines, IA 50309, steve@bccadvisers.com 2) Go to www.drakephidelts.org and make your gift using the new online giving form. Remember the Phi Delta Theta pledge and oath we took — "Leave the fraternity not lesser than, not equal too, but greater than it was transmitted to us." We've developed a new website so our alumni can follow along with the recolonization effort. The website, www.drakephidelts.org, features recolonization updates, alumni news, photos, and alumni event information. You can also use the site to update your contact information and submit photos. drakephidelts.org Online Giving Now Available!
