Everyone enjoyed the homemade food and socializing with the people around them. This is what makes our commu- nity special. The proceeds will go toward the eighth grader's end-of-the-year field trip to Bisbee. Today the news is reported that Congress will alleviate the pressure on the United States Postal Service. After fleecing the Post Office funds for years and years, they finally realize some- thing needs to be done. The plan still leaves a shortfall of millions perhaps billions of dollars. This is supposed to provide the closure of fewer Post Of- fices. Perhaps, maybe! It causes one to wonder what will happen to the Post Office here which already functions under stressful circumstances. Then came our own town crisis, when then Mayor Ed Foster encouraged near riot status at our Town Council meet- ings that were at least half filled with, you guessed it, elder women. In came the metal detector machine, have other Towns that experience the pressure from the influx of winter visitors. Now I get it!! Sudden changes as a result of crisis are not a penalty against the innocent. On the contrary, those sudden changes make the innocent a priority!!! As I read the agenda for our upcoming Town Council Meeting I see it with a very different set of eyes. We are important, May 16, 2012 we matter, and we are being protected by our town leaders against a negative faction that wants nothing more than to hurt us and destroy our town. How refreshing to know that our next Town Council Meeting will not be met with Jennifer "Jade" Jones scream- ing into the microphone that all town employee checks are null and void, or that the purchase of a water truck is stupid, or that the purchase of main- tenance vehicles is a violation of some code she pulled out of her hat, or any other battle she sees fit to fuel with her hostility. Yes, I shall go through that metal de- tector machine with bells on my toes and a song in my heart because my town really does care about me, and that's something to write home about! Love, Hygeia Halfmoon Concerned Citizen of Quartzsite Summer of fun for QES To all of the families of Quartzsite Elementary School: I would like to ask all of our families to participate in "A Summer of Fun with Pictures" that you can take dur- ing your summer vacation. We live in such a diverse area of beau- ty that you can probably take pictures of cactus, rock formations, lizards, and birds from your own back yard. But where ever you go this summer, be aware of your surroundings and "cap- ture the moment" with your camera or cell phone. My plans are to submit photos to Ari- zona Highways Magazine in hopes that they will appear in one of their issues representing "Arizona through the Eyes of Quartzsite Elementary School Students". What an accomplishment that would be! So while you are enjoying your sum- mer with the kids, remember to have your kids capture their surroundings for future memories.
