the lion Tattler illinois beta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon • The University of illinois SPRING 2016 I t is an exciting time to be an ΣΑΕ at the University of Illinois and I am proud to share another year of progress with you. The brothers of Illinois Beta are excited for the start of a new semester and a new year. Our expectations and our outlook for the spring semester are high and hopeful. We continue to advance toward our goals from last semester and into 2016. Balancing academics and socials Academically, the brothers improved our GPA drastically as we earned a 3.12 GPA, moving us above the fraternity average, along with five members achieving 4.0 GPAs. Socially, our schedule stands lucrative as ever, while still allowing for a surplus in accounts. more than $8,000 raised toward lerner scholarship Fund We partnered with the local Zeta Beta Tau Chapter in a philanthropy hockey event where we raised money in honor of ZBT brother, Brett Lerner, who passed away in a car accident. The money was put toward a scholarship fund to help an undergraduate student pursue their inter- est in journalism. Philanthropically, the brothers are focused on meeting their individual requirement of 10 service hours and are buzzing with excitement for this year's Paddy Murphy event. another successFul recruitment With spring recruitment coming to an end, the chapter will welcome 18 new members into our brotherhood. This is a large number compared to most other fraternities on campus. Illinois Beta has put a focus on recruiting men of action and involvement. This new class boasts a few Illini football players along with members who excel academically. The capital improvements to the house, along with improvements to the liv- ing standards, made this a possibility, and the chapter continues to build on this momentum. The future of ILBE looks very promising as we con- tinue to meet our recruitment goals with the top men on campus. the new and excited executive Board As the spring semester continues, the new executive board members are now settling into their roles. We are focused on making improve- ments and changing the chapter to reflect our values, along with build- ing on the advances that have been made over the last year. As we pursue these goals, we are excited to continue to develop and foster relations with our alumni base. If you would like to get involved with the chapter or reconnect, I'm more than happy to meet and talk with you. Please feel free to reach out to me at abishek.mahesh@gmail.com or (502) 657-9662. We are grateful for all the guidance and help from our alumni and are looking forward to making this another successful year.
