Service Chairman Jonah von der Embse '18 led e- ta Delta to accumulate over 500 service hours and was voted "Best Brother" of fall 2015 by the Chapter. "No More Excuses" – Steve Jeney '85 Pays It Forward S teve Jeney '85 believes that Beta has the best people. is sentiment has stuck with him since his days as an under- graduate at Ohio State, as have many of his eta Delta brothers. It's been more than 30 years, but Steve has maintained the strong bonds he made back then, which is why he feels so strongly about the Chapter and the capital campaign today. "is campaign is important to eta Del- ta's future," Steve said, "because I was one of those young college kids many years ago and appreciated (though maybe not at the time) those who made the Beta experience possible for me. In turn, it only seems fair that we pro- vide current and future Betas the same great experience, particularly with the building of a new Chapter House. Unfortunately, however, there seems to be a divide on the subject, and regretfully, dollars are not being donated as a result. "Forget about what things used to be like or how the kids today should live in the same conditions that we lived in decades ago. It's a new era, and living conditions and ar- rangements are different. Any eta Delta alumni with college kids or regent graduates concerned about the current state of Beta at Ohio State, rest assured all is well with 68 Chapter members who cumulatively carry a 3.37 GPA; all this without a Chapter House. OSU is the place where the phrase 'pay it forward' was created, so let's get on with it. No more excuses." Steve and his wife, Andi, live in Columbus, Ohio, and have two sons. He is the co-owner of National Electric Coil, a company special- izing in upgrading electric generators for all major utilities worldwide. In his spare time, Steve enjoys golfing, skiing, and working out. You can contact him at sjeney@msn.com. THETA DELTA COLONY OF 68 MEN CONTINUES SUCCESS T he members of eta Delta continue to strengthen their fraternal bond, excel in academics, and emerge as leaders. Theta Deltas Quickly Becoming Campus Leaders e Interfraternity Council now has three eta Deltas holding executive positions. Ian Kennedy '18 was elected vice president of recruitment, Scott McLaughlin '18 was elected director of marketing, and Jason Wang '18 was elected the director of technology. Betas Taking Charge Service Chairman Jonah von der Embse '18 has led the colony to accumulate more than 500 ser- vice hours. He was recently recognized publicly by e General Fraternity for his leadership, all while achieving a 4.0 GPA in school. Haryoon Jang '17, a junior finance major, founded the chapter of Moneythink at Ohio State. Moneythink is an organization that uses mentorships to fulfill the vision of a world where every student is financially literate and prepared to make smart financial de- cisions upon entering adulthood. Refounding Fathers Enjoy Campus Life e refounding fathers of eta Delta have been busy spreading the word of Beta's return to campus. ey have serenaded several sororities and are continuing Monday night dinners as a group. Several Betas attended the Wooden Leadership Institute in Oxford, Ohio, last fall. "It made me realize how well our Ohio State colony is doing," said attendee Sam McTurner '17. "I constantly found myself giving advice to other Chapter leaders and having deep discussions. I also want to thank all of the donors who funded the Institute, as well as the countless leadership opportunities the Beta Leader- ship fund provides and pays for. Also, thank you so much to our alumni who aided in paying for the Institute at no cost to us. Believe me when I say I would not have been able to afford to go to Wooden without them, and I would have missed out on this incredible experience." Yours in _kai_, Matt Brown '05 BQP Page 3 "OSU is the place where the phrase 'pay it forward' was created, so let's get on with it. No more excuses."
