LIKE US on Facebook.com/ DesertMessengerNews FOLLOW US on Twitter @QuartzsiteRain By Shanana "Rain" BearCat The early heat we've experienced is bringing about some changes in all of us. We can get a bit grouchy without even knowing why. Our furry friends and children can get heat exhaustion quickly when left unattended in hot cars; even for just a short shopping trip. Also the sidewalk is hot on those little paws, so please be mindful as the heat continues this week. With the warmer temperatures, snakes and scorpions will be com- ing out of their hiding, also. So watch where you place your feet and hands. Be sure to hydrate yourself too. Those of us who stay year-round know these tips, but for our visitors who used to lower temperatures, I just thought a re- minder might be in order. The heat does a trick on us full- time residents as well. The heat signals many of us to start plan- ning for next year. However, we're "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." ~ Lewis Carroll still enjoying our visitors and all the events still happening. There's something special about Quartzsite that draws thousands of visitors. Some say it's the people; some say it's the sunrises & sunsets; some say it's the mysterious sacred- ness of the area; some say the unique beauty of the desert; some argue it's the freedom of the wild, wild west. I think it's all these things. Our de- mographics are changing and so are the way people are drawn to this area. As Lewis Carroll said, "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." Quartzsite is heating up in more ways than one. Excitement about the Arizona Peace Trail is building and the younger visitors want to "go play." To be a healthy community we must adjust to these changes, just as we adjust to the record-break- ing heat this week. Let's embrace change. with enthusiasm instead of fear! Making plans and welcoming the new is always challenging, but just think of all the fun we can have! LETTERS TO EDITOR POLICY Desert Messenger encourages letters from its readers.
