Page 4 Pike Press L ooking back on his years at Gamma Chi, David Metz '77 now realizes how transformative and important those years were. "It was probably the high point of my life. Those years were the best and the most memorable. I had no idea at the time, but I realize it now." David has always been proud to be a Pike, and that pride continues to grow as Gamma Chi begins to rebuild our chapter house. "It's been a lasting brotherhood that is truly amazing. I've always been proud to be a Pike from day one, and still am today." With hopes of medical school, David earned his bachelor of science degree from OSU. His Pike brothers were supportive of David's dream to be a doctor, and gave him the moral support he needed while applying and studying. Many alumni also had a positive impact on David's time at Gamma Chi. "J. Lewie Sanderson '39 was quite an amazing man, a legend, and a leader in the house who provided inspiration for me." Memories of chapter parties, Shipwreck, hanging out with brothers at the house, and going for happy hours have stuck with David over the years. While medical school and training prevented David from staying involved with the chapter, now that work has slowed down a bit he spends more time getting involved with Gamma Chi. "The chapter is doing great, better than ever. It's unbelievable. I am so proud, especially of the alumni support for the new house. It's beyond my wildest dreams." David enjoyed reconnecting with friends at the recent groundbreaking events. Like many of our alumni, David understands the importance of the capital campaign and competitive housing. "It's really the fulfillment of a dream to build this new house. We are ready to refurbish the house, and this elite group of alumni had a great idea to build something new and outstanding. It's going to be the nicest house on campus by far, and will be a huge boon for Gamma Chi. We will be the elite fraternity on campus." David has contributed to the campaign and hopes that brothers will look back on the years they were in Pike and realize how meaningful and transformative they were, and be influenced to give back with a gift as well. Today, David practices anesthesiology in several Dallas-area hospitals. He and his wife, Sheila, are raising their future Pike, Grayson, who is 9 years old and very excited about the new chapter house. David enjoys spending time with his family, flying small airplanes, traveling, outdoor photography, hiking, and camping. Reach out to David via e-mail at davidmetz@me.com.
