CUMBERLAND Library Holds Winter Reading Program Noah Murray, a member of Cumberland County Cooperative Extension's 4-H Youth Development program, represented the County at the sixth annual North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Youth Summit in August during the associatin's annual conference. Murray was honored by the Board of Commissioners at their Nov. 16 meeting. Murray is a 15-year-old freshman at Howard Health and Life Sciences High School. He is the son of Jinaki Burroughs. The Youth Summit provides county commissioners from across the state the opportunity to connect with the next generation of leaders. Mountain Dr., Fayetteville. 4-H Member Represents County At Conference The Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center is holding its Winter Reading and Activity Program from Dec. 1 through Jan. 31 to encourage people of all ages to keep reading during the winter. The Winter Reading Program uses a Bingo card game system with a different library activity listed on each square of the card. The two age categories are 11 and under and 12 and up. Participants in the 11 and under category can enter to win a Playaway Launchpad and participants 12 and up and enter to win a Kindle Fire. Cumberland County Government employees invite the public to participate in their annual holiday food drive. Non-perishable food items are being collected at County buildings through Dec. 14 and will be given to the Fayetteville Urban Ministry and Salvation Army for distribution to local families. Donations can be placed in the marked green plastic bins inside the entrances of the Courthouse and other County buildings. Suggested food items include canned meats, vegetables and fruit; as well as sturdy bags or boxes of rice, pasta, dried beans, sugar, flour, coffee and grits. Plastic jars of peanut butter, jellies and other condiments are appreciated. Glass jars will not be accepted. For more information, call 910-437-1921.
