It's near the end of the first quarter. On October 5, Balfour was here to visit the junior and se- nior classes about class rings, and for the seniors, graduation items. They were here again on October 8 to take orders. On October 13, there was a Red Ribbon speaker, Mika Camarena to encourage stu- dents to stay away from drugs. Red Ribbon week will be from Oc- tober 24 to October 31. Students took the PSAT which will help them prepare for the actual SAT test. It shows what areas you need to work on. On October 15, there will be an early release and a four day weekend. Picture retakes will take place on October 21 as well as parent teacher conferences which will be from 5pm to 7pm. On October 26, all students will be participating in a Healthy Re- lationship class. The annual Trunk-or-Treat, spon- sored by NHS will be on October 30 from 6pm to 7:30pm. The Trunk or Treat will include carni- val games, a haunted house, and a trunk or treat. Spooky decora- tions, gifts cards and/or candy or other treat donations would be greatly appreciated. All commu- nity members and businesses are welcome to set up in the parking lot or other available space on campus for handing out candy and treats. Businesses that need a vol- Salome High School News unteer to hand out treats for them or who need a sign made should contact the school right away. Any assistance decorating the campus is welcome from 2-4 p.m. Student of the Month for Sep- tember is Cobey Hager. When we asked him about how it felt to be Student of the Month, he said, "It's pretty cool, especially since it's only my first couple of months here." He told us that what makes him a good student is his faith in God. Sports also is a big thing to him and helps him focus. The Dick Wick Hall Parade was held on October 3. Many students participated in the art show and the parade. For the art show, Ve- ronica Stender received first place, Rene Soqui received second place, and Ezekiel Palma received third place. The float that Salome High School's Art Club put together received awards for the "Best Theme" and "Best School". The volleyball team is starting to wrap up the season. On Oc- tober 6, the team played against Arizona Charter. On October 10, they played against Williams High School. On the 15th, they will play Mingus Mountain. The girls will play against Telesis Prep on October 20. Their last game will be on October 23 against Seligman at home. The football team is wrapping up the season. On October 9, the boys beat Telesis Prep. On October 16, they will be playing against Gila Bend. As of now, they are going into that game 6-2. With a win, the team may host a playoff game on October 24. Coach Drotzmann and Assistant Coach Scharboneau are very excited for the end of the sea- son since the team has been doing so well. Support from the commu- nity is always welcome! Jeep Riders will meet at the county park at 8 AM, ride at 8:30 on November 12; a second jeep ride will be rescheduled after Thanksgiving. Meetings begin at 9 AM on Novem- ber 19 at the Bouse Booster Hall, and follow every third Thursday through March. Come join us; visitors are always welcome. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 18 who enjoys the sport of off-highway riding and supports our mission and purpose. Annual mem- bership dues are $10 per household, valid Jan. 1- Dec. 31 regardless of the date joined. Application forms are available on our website: www. ghostriders.desertrail.net. Club Rides are scheduled on the first and third Tuesday of each month and Jeep Rides the second and fourth Thursday November/March.
