In October we were able to donate to Quartzsite Food Bank, and a donation to the local Soccer Team. It will be for uniforms and they will have Quartzsite Com- munity Thrift Store on the uniform. The team plays other teams from the area. Watch for schedule and support the team. The 1st of November we will start our winter hours, Mon. thru Sat., 9am to 1pm. (Open Thurs. thru Sat. 9am to 1pm till the end of Octo- ber.) Remember your donations and support keep the store open. We are located behind Silly Al's. Thank you and Welcome from all the volunteers. Quartzsite Community Thrift Store. SELFLESS GENEROSITY I would like to thank the people of Quartzsite who have generously and lovingly donated essential equipment for our classroom and sensory room. As the new Direc- tor of Special Services here in Quartzsite Elementary School, I have seen an outpouring of support from the community that is un- heard of in other communities! It is an awesome experience as we re- build our special services program. We have a long way to go. We have a great new team; from our new Superintendant Raquel Burton, our aides and mostly our community! GO SCORPIONS! Thank you for entrusting us with the education and training of our students we take our jobs and re- sponsibilities seriously. Thank you for the selfless generosity of those who have donated to our program (they do not want their names mentioned). So, Thank you for: the refrigera- tor, the big TV, the squeeze chute, the Hanging Crow's Nest, Therapy Balls, interactive learning games, just to name a few items. We are building an A-1 sensory room and while we still have a ways to go, I know it will get done. Now for some shameless pander- ing; we would to acquire some spe- cific items for our sensory room. Please call Jon Samaha at 928-927- 5500. Again we would like to thank you QUARTZSITE! Jon Samaha 585 N. The very hot summer will be over with and we will be back to enjoying various fund raising dinners, jam sessions throughout the town, vendors returning with more new items to purchase, the gem and mineral show and much, much more. We will also have a continuing need to keep the shelves of the Quartzsite Food Bank full and to help those less fortunate. This fall I am proud to say that some of that need will be filled by two programs offered by the Thrivent Lutheran Financial Organiza- tion. I returned from Yuma this month having attended a Thrivent Board Meeting. At this meeting I submitted three grant applications that will heavily impact Quartzsite. 1) $500.00 to match funds raised by Covenant Lutheran Church at their annual December 5th Yard and Bake Sale 2) $500.00 to match funds for Hero Comfort's Silent Auction and 3) $400.00 to match funds for the Soup and Chowder Festival. We are also well into submitting various Action Team projects also sponsored by Thrivent which gives associate members the opportunity to receive $250.00 to lead a project that will help somewhere in the COMMUNITY where there is a need. We have as of this date submitted 16 projects, of which 10 have been approved. My husband, Gene just finished his by providing non-perishable canned meat and grocery items for the Isaiah 58's food pantry (see photo above.) There are still oppor- tunities to put in for projects that can help you. November, 14, 2015 at Covenant Lutheran Church we will have the regional Thrivent representatives here to talk to you about the Action Team program and to help those of you that have your associate cards put in for your projects or help you find one that you can start. The meet- ing will start at 9 AM and a free lunch will be provided. I hope that you will come and listen and then Take Action to help your COMMUNITY OF QUARTZSITE. These funds will also be available next year and we can do this all over again. You can also contact me, Maggie Ross at 360-490-8175 for information. Thrivent Action Team updates
