In a SMAC (South Mtn. Athletic Conference) contest on the road, the Bulldogs opponent East Burke used a successful running game to take a high scoring 44-33 victory. Much improved East Burke got a solid performance on a wet fi eld from running back Brandon Clark, who fi nished with around 200 yards rushing. One of the positives in the loss for Burns was the continued impressive play of QB-Cameron Bar- bee, who threw three touchdown passes. Bulldogs running back Aaron Hill also contributed a touchdown. Some mistakes, penalties, and depth were factors in the loss that dropped Burns to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Crest Chargers The defending state champs were also involved in a Monday night game and did what they've been doing to their opponents frequently this season; Scoring lots of points and pretty much winning games even before halftime. On the road at RS Central, Crest scored the fi rst six times they had the football in route to a 42-14 win. Star running back Tre Harbison had a huge night, with most of his damage coming in the 1st quar- ter. At halftime, Harbison had already rushed for over 150 yards with several touchdowns. On defense, the Chargers held down the RS rushing attack and caused all kinds of problems when Central attempted to get off a punt. Crest improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in SMAC play, as they host Chase this week. The Kings Mountain Mountaineers & The Shelby Golden Lions The 2015 edition of The Battle of Buffalo Creek was played at Kings Mountain this year in the rain and mud, but fans weren't disappointed as both teams entered undefeated. In the end, the Shelby Golden Lions remained perfect so far this season with a 34-20 win. The high-octane air attack of Shelby wasn't its nor- mal self, due to not just the wet conditions but an attacking Kings Mtn. defense. However, plays like Xavier Brooks returning a kickoff 70 plus yards to the end zone helped to make up for it. In the loss, Mountaineers QB Darren Burns had touchdown throws to some of his usual go to guys – Jake Merchant and Kavin Mose- ly. This was a County vs. County match up to be proud of with more to come. Shelby is now 6-0/3-0, while Kings Mountain drops to 5-1/2-1.
