PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Va ca ti on B ib le S ch oo l re gi st ra ti on o pe n By Maggie Fair Mark 11:24: "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." Prayer, to some people, seems cliché. I've heard comments from non-be- lievers that as Chris- tians we use it as a pat answer to what ails the world. On the contrary, to those standing in the gap, watching on the walls, tra- vailing in deep interces- sion for the very life of our country, state, local towns, neighbors, friends and family, it is neither clichéd nor easy. My journey with God began against all odds. I got saved out of eastern re- ligion 25 years ago. I had first-hand experience in that arena regarding the influence of the demonic. I can look back and say with confidence that many people were praying for me. I did not find this out though, until after I met God. Folks would walk up to me in town or at church and tell me they had been praying for me. I had my first encounter with Je- sus as my Savior during an open vision in which God let me fall for a very long time, then a door opened and, with his arm around my shoulder, he pointed my face toward the doors of hell and showed me the truth, that I had asked for earlier in the day; when I prayed to "the God who- ever you are". Right then I promised Jesus if he took me out of there I would serve him for the rest of my life. It would, however, be another couple of weeks before I gave my heart fully and publicly to Him. I acknowledged Him be- fore all mankind at a cru- sade in town where a mis- sionary couple from Haiti came to share the Lord. I was the only one saved during this time. My hus- band, who was also into eastern religion, would physically pull me out of these meetings for the first couple of days. Just as many biblical things happen on the third day, so too, on the third day, I was not only saved but was slain in the spirit! The worship Pastors helped me by suggesting that I sit be- tween them so I wasn't as accessible to my husband when he came in. This is what I did and it allowed me to stay at the meeting. From the point of my salvation I have gone on to get training through at- tending three years of the Bethel School of Supernat- ural Ministry followed by a time at Simpson Univer- sity where I earned a BA in Organizational Lead- ership. I currently vol- unteer as an Intern for PrayNorthState. One of my PrayNorthState assign- ments is to go out leading teams to pray for schools, businesses, political orga- nizations, individual peo- ple and ministries. Cur- rently prayer and writing have been a main focus of my walk with the Lord. Recently prayer and intervention were called for in a very personal way for me and on a very important issue. The is- sue was home care for the elderly and handi- capped. Governor Brown, through his proposed budget, was planning to restrict workers to 40 hours each week and cut existing hours by 7% for all in home care provid- ers. This was being done on the heels of the fed- eral laws mandating overtime with pay paid for all employees. Federal Law caps hours at 61 per week instead of 40. In the case of in-home providers these hours are funded in lieu of handi- capped and elderly folks being placed in care fa- cilities which can cost three times more than in- home care. This was be- ing done by Governor Brown to free up fund- ing for "his baby", a sixty- eight billion dollar high speed bullet train in Cali- fornia. What happened fol- lowing this is that my se- verely challenged daugh- ter, her care provider, and I went to a rally in Sacra- mento to stand up — not only our rights, but for the rights of all elderly and handicapped individ- uals. In addition to this, much prayer regarding this issue followed weekly by PrayNorthState and others. According to the June 13, 2014 update from the CUHW/IHSS Work- ers Union, of which I am a member, "The 40-hour cap on provider hours has been rejected in the final budget bill to be voted on, on Sunday June 15th; how- ever, the 7% will be part of the budget and subject to separate negotiations out- side the budget process and dependent on federal money". It's not time get com- fortable, but this is a def- inite victory. Will you please pray with us that the 7% cuts will be re- stored and that the "caps" will be removed? Thank- you for caring with and for us as we seek the Father's heart for his beloved. As of this writing these prayers have been an- swered. MaggieFairhas been an intern with PrayNorthState since 2012. PrayNorthState is a statewide — albeit Redding based — parachurch ministry serving Tehama County since 2001.
