'94 has made in his life, he considers joining Delta Tau Delta to be one of the best. "I gained so many lifelong friendships, life lessons, and experiences," David said. "The Delt experience taught me the value of service. I still lean on the core values of truth, courage, faith, and power to this day." The fraternity served as his first exposure to being a leader and making difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions. That experience served David well throughout dental school, as an Army officer, and an entrepreneur. He encourages undergraduates to utilize opportunities and challenges alumni to recognize the importance of their role in the fraternity. As a former chapter advisor and IFC graduate assistant, David understands the powerful influence of strong alumni leadership. "It's important that young men have solid mentors that will advise them on how to be a success and how to overcome challenges," David said. As an undergraduate, David's mentors and brothers were the source of many great memories, but most of all the brotherhood was a group of men he could always count on. David maintained those bonds throughout his career in North Carolina, South Carolina, Germany, Italy, and, most recently, Colorado. He started his Colorado dental practice in 2009 and enjoys the balance between being a health care professional and being a businessman and entrepreneur. David, his wife, Karah, and 4-year-old son, Bennett, reside in Avon, Colorado. The family enjoys traveling and spending time in the mountains with their boxer, Brux. One of our primary goals is to become a more recognized leader on campus, in the community, and throughout the international fraternity. We are striving to build upon the rich history of Beta Tau and bring a Hugh Shields back to our chapter. Academics We made significant strides in academic achievement over the past few semesters. In the fall, Beta Tau finished with a GPA ranked fifth out of all 23 IFC fraternities on campus with a 3.33 GPA. In the spring 2014 semester, our chapter earned a 3.216, so we have seen noteworthy improvement. We are searching for a faculty academic advisor to further aid us in holding ourselves academically account- able, as well as implementing in-house tutors to aid brothers in their schoolwork. Ryan Caldwell '98, Blake Woodruff '13, and Jim Emmanuel '79 at the 2015 Western Plains Division Conference. (Continued on page 4)
