Our third social event at Longwell's Bar & Grill in Lincoln on March 8 was a great success, with 75 attendees. It was the last scheduled men's basketball game of the season and Chapter Leadership Consultant Sam Mallick, Vanderbilt University '14, was visiting Beta Tau. We had an opportunity to join as alumni with the young Delts from the undergraduate chapter. There were alumni from Lincoln, Omaha, other areas of the state, and from as far away as Denver. A special thanks to the undergraduate men of the Beta Tau Chapter and to Brent Sallee '92 for helping organize the event, as well as Eric Marsh '88, owner of Longwell's, for his hospitality. Those of you who attended previous after-work socials realize what a special opportunity it is to join with your brothers, and many of you who attended the reunion and open house enjoyed the company of alumni back to 1966. We reconnected with more alumni who may join us as part of the Alumni Advisory Team and some who are now working with board member Dean Jenkins '55 and Blake Woodruff '13 to host the Alumni Golf Tournament and after-golf social on Saturday, June 6, at Tiburon Golf Course in Omaha. We'll have a four-person scramble with a maximum of 15 teams. Plan now and save the date. HOW YOU CAN HELP Alumni involvement ensures continued leadership for the Beta Tau Chapter. There are day-to-day activities and meetings and decisions to be made about current and future financial commitments and obligations, resolving everything from simple questions about how things work to complex financial obligations competing for limited funds. House Corporation communications include telephone calls or meetings with vendors, contractors, local officials, the chapter consultant, and the international office. In my years on the board, I have observed our young board members marry and start families, and as they advance in their careers with more demands for time they have less available time for the fraternity. It takes time to get in the rhythm of the board and the activities that each of us is involved in or managing. Join us on the board and contribute time to see what may interest you now and in the coming years. We have 400 Beta Tau alumni in the Lincoln-Omaha metropolitan areas. Join us and help increase alumni involvement to 5% in these two metropolitan areas and add 20 men, nearly doubling the current actively participating alumni. Join us at the next after-work social and consider joining the Alumni Advisory Team, volunteer to assist with a project, or meet with the House Corporation or chapter advisors and see how your interests and shared values can contribute as an active volunteer. The Alumni Advisory Team presents an opportunity for more involvement and your personal engagement. Some of the continued needs are mentors for the chapter officers and members. Positions available are recruitment advisor, membership education advisor, risk management advisor, and road advisor. This is your opportunity to engage again in the fraternal experience with members of the board and with the young undergraduates. It has brought back great memories of my years on campus and the realization of how important the fraternity is today as it was then. I know that you will find involvement with the fraternity an exciting and rewarding experience. Byron Stigge '64, a member of House Corporation and the Alumni Advisory Team, engaged with the undergraduate chapter finance committee and is working to help improve business practices and understanding amongst members of the committee.
