T
he past semester was a busy and productive one for the
gentleman of New Hampshire Beta. Amid their studies, recruiting,
and other obligations, the chapter participated in and sponsored a
wide array of events that show their diversity and passion for being
involved on campus. These events fortify the values of the True
Gentleman that the members exhibit on a daily basis.
Giving back to the community is one of the most rewarding
endeavors the chapter participates in, and the chapter went above
and beyond to give back to the town of Durham and surrounding
communities. Partnering with the Children's Miracle Network,
the chapter hosted a concert with the band AER in September.
In addition to a great experience for those attending, the chapter
raised several hundred dollars to donate to the Children's Miracle
Network. The chapter also got together in December and, with the
help of other Greek organizations, donated hundreds of dollars'
worth of toys to Toys for Tots.
NH Beta began a relationship with a food bank in Portsmouth and
has helped prepare meals and snacks for those in need. This is a
relationship we look forward to being a part of for years to come.
One of our brothers, Joseph Tumber '15, initiated an after-school
program at the Oyster River Elementary School called Science
Fridays where students are brought around town and taught
science through different activities with brothers. The brothers also
continued their involvement in Clean-up Durham by picking up
trash all over the town and being responsible for cleaning an area
of highway just outside of town.
We look to continue and broaden our level of involvement to make
the town of Durham and the University a better place to live. We
hope that our diverse involvement shows the town and University
of New Hampshire that we are far from stereotypical in regards to
fraternities.
Alumni involvement is critical to the development of leaders, and the
alumni association and alumni advisory board are always looking
for alumni to join us. We would also like any
interested alumni to get in touch and
come see the house, the brothers,
and the remarkable progress we
have made since coming back to
campus. Feel free to get in touch
with me or any member of the
chapter.
