What an amazing couple of weeks in Quartzsite. The weather cooperated for our winter visi- tors who came and enjoyed the big shows in town. There's so much to see and just so little time for many of us! Thank- fully, technology is now a part of the show scene in Quartzsite. This year, dozens of new videos popped up online, some made by drones show- ing overhead views of the Big Tent area and BLM camping areas. With so many cell phone cameras, folks posted hundreds of photos of areas I didn't get to visit this year. Also this year was the fi rst annual Escapees Blogger gathering. For those Internet beginners, a "Blog" is an abbreviated version of "weblog," which is a term used to describe websites that maintain an ongo- ing chronicle of information. Some Blogs are like an old fashioned jour- Cowboy, Indian, US Cavalry and Unique Museum Quality WESTERN ITEMS! Rice Ranch - E. J. R. R. Tolkien nal, but now with gorgeous photos, videos, daily posts sharing with their readers about their day adven- tures. Escapees Bloggers post about anything and everything about their lives in an RV along with their trav- els around the country. As the saying, goes, "Not all who wander are lost." RVers who visit Quartzsite are younger than in years past and they enjoy a variety of dif- ferent lifestyles. Van dwellers also gathered to share tips with each other, while "Birds of a Feather" groups gathered together in groups of like-minded RVers. Deals are still being found all over town as vendors are still offering their wares at multiple swap meets. Restaurants are now accessible. Af- ter a few days of rain, get out and "wander" around. Hope you get to enjoy the warm weather this week. Ever have a chick stare at you? A chick to me is a gal between 72 and 85. You're in a restaurant and about that time you're thinking about getting up and singing "Some Enchanted Evening," suddenly you realize she's reading the electronic menu board, behind you, on the wall. Provided by Elmer London, Quartzsite and Desert Messenger By Joanne Winer Local bookstore owner and musi- cian Paul Winer just fi nished another concert at the Senior Citizens Center last weekend to a sell out crowd-- in fact, there were people standing through the show and some had to be turned away at the door!! They just love his stories and great stompin' boogie woogie blues music, this time accompanied by Buddy Apfel from Phoenix, whose tuba and trombone playing really wowed the crowd. Paul's next concerts are his biggest of the year--his two shows at the Q.I.A. on February 17--2 p.m. and 7 p.m. He will be sharing the stage with Ralph Martin and his one string bass, and Jerry Mullins with his rhythm guitar. These great musicians have been on the music scene for over 30 years, and still put on a great show!! Special guest again this year will be "Old Willie Boy", boyhood friend and former harmonica player with Paul in the 70's (his name is Will Pirone and he is on Paul's CD from back then). Will has been fl y- ing out here for the past three years to play these shows with Paul and the others, and everyone loves his virtuoso harmonica playing. Will and Paul will spend some of the concert doing a medley of the music they played to- gether all those years ago. They are like magic together!! There will be some comedy, some nostalgia, and lots more great music this year, and everyone is invited to come out and experience a one of a kind evening with Paul and his friends. Tickets are already on sale at the Q.I.A. offi ce, and Reader's Oasis Bookstore and are only $10. per person. You can also get tickets at the door before each show. Be sure to get there early to get a good seat--doors open at 1 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. and you might want to bring a pillow to sit on too!! This is one of the best concerts to come to this area, and it's going to be a super fun time!! For more information, call Paul at 928-927- 6551 or the Q.I.A. at 928-927-6325.
