The Need to Renovate W hile the Beta-Tau experience is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the Chapter House, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our Brothers and is a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Opening in 1978, with additions constructed in 1979, '82, '86 and '90, this Chapter House has been a part of Beta-Tau's legacy for 35 years. More than 600 Brothers have passed through the Chapter since the first addition was opened and throughout time the structure is show- ing its age. It has become clear we must make a major investment in our Chapter House if we are to remain competitive and provide a quality living environment to lead to the personal growth and devel- opment of our members. Keeping Our Brothers Safe (Physical and Safety Needs) e safety of our collegiate members is of utmost importance to the Beta Tau of Kappa Sigma Society; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our collegians. Much like our personal homes, our Chapter House must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. Pursuing Excellence (Academic and Technological Needs) Baker is as academically challenging as ever and the need for an enhanced, quiet, well-lit, and comfortable study space within our facility is necessary for our members to achieve. We have all seen the impact of technology over the years, as devices not present during your college years are now necessities, including personal computers, high- speed Internet access, and e-mail. Our plan lays a foundation that will ensure that Kappa Sig can excel academically. Setting Ourselves Apart (Competition) While Beta-Tau continues to attract some of the top men, we know that we are losing quality potential members to other fraternities that offer better facilities. Recently, Delta Tau Delta and Sigma Phi Epsilon have both completed major renovations of their chapter houses, as well as Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Delta Delta sororities. We must also compete with the amenities offered in newly renovated on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments that draw our older and prospective members away from Kappa Sigma. For Beta-Tau to remain a premier fraternity at Baker, we must renovate our facility to attract the quality men we pride ourselves on.
