The generosity of all those who participated in the Soup and Chowder Festival, the Queen of Peace Catholic Church's Angels' Asso- ciation, the Covenant Lutheran Church congregation, the Quartzsite Rotary, K & B Tools, Hardies Beads and Jewelry, and some very generous, anonymous individuals was outstanding. What was also a blessing was that Johnson Refrigeration in Blythe matched our best bid from as far away as Phoenix, and performed the repair quickly and neatly. We can say, "We did the entire thing locally". It was a hard decision to make, but get- ting the freezer repaired was important enough that we did use some of the money donated to purchase food in or- der to make up some shortage of funds to pay for the repair prior to our winter onslaught of visitors, a time when we at the Food Bank feel the greatest de- mand. What we required was a com- plete, new, outside unit. The old unit malfunctioned and caused a short that burned many of the component parts. We raised the funds, sought out bids, and installed a new unit in a little over 4 weeks. With all new components, this freezer should be able to function trou- ble free for many years to come. And while we thank all the people of Quartzsite for making our freezer oper- ational again, we still have a shortage of food on our shelves and there's no one to turn to for outside assistance. So, to those who can see their way clear to do- nate to the cause, for the fi rst time or again, we would greatly appreciate it. The Quartzsite Food Bank is open, and Carol Kelley is there, every Tuesday and Thursday from 8-noon (excluding Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve). We're located at 40 N. Moon Mountain Road, just across the street to the north of the Senior Center, and she would gladly accept your cash or a check made out to the Friends of the Quartzsite Food Bank. If you would rather donate canned or boxed goods, feel free to drive around back so that we can help you unload. Again, thank you all, Frank Oulman Food Bank updates
