Clyde was president of the house corporation in 1927 and convinced KU professor John Ise to sell the current land tract to the Delta Tau Delta Society. The chapter moved from 1100 Indiana and construction began on the Shelter. "When the Lawrence postmaster asked what address he wanted to use, he was given the choice of several numbers. He chose 1111, because he considered the $6,000 land purchase and Shelter construction to be the biggest gamble of his life; so why not pick lucky numbers," Jeff said. Those lucky numbers have brought decades of Delt brotherhood to KU. Being a legacy was not all that drew Jeff to become a Delt. "While being a legacy had a great impact, I was lucky enough to have many good friends in the incoming pledge class," he said. Jeff is very proud to be part of the same chapter that his grandfather held in such high regard. Jeff served as alumni chairman while working on his B.S. in journalism. He later earned a master's in business administration. Today he is the owner of Energy Outsourcing, a refined oil product consulting firm. His career advice to Delts today is to "find something you like to learn about in school and turn it into something you can make a living at the rest of your life." Jeff attended the centennial reunion in 2012 and has kept in touch with several brothers since reconnecting at that event. He visited the Shelter this fall and was impressed with the state of the chapter. "The Shelter looked good, and the young men were enthusiastic about the direction and future of Gamma Tau," he said. The capital campaign has provided Jeff with another opportunity to engage with the chapter. "The motivation to support the capital campaign came from my desire to see Gamma Tau thrive in the 21st century," he said. "My grandfather gambled a little and worked hard to see it succeed in the 20th century. If our support encourages others and gives our young brothers the foundation to grow Gamma Tau, we will have drawn a good roadmap for another 100 years." Jeff and his wife, Karen, live in Overland Park, Kansas, and have three children and six grandchildren. You can contact him at jeffreygelvin@aol.com.
