Red Bluff turned the ball over on its first four possessions and Chico built up a 13-0 lead before their star quarterback Trevon Reid even entered the game in the middle of the second quarter. When he did it seemed as if all he did was lead the Panthers on touchdown dri- ves. His first drive under center resulted in a 26-yard touchdown pass to Stefano Diseno that put Chico up 20-0. Red Bluff responded — as to the Spar- tans' credit they tried to all night — when Gage Grabfelder capped a 67-yard scoring drive with a 6-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 20-7. Ty Smith picked off Reid at Red Bluff's 4-yard line to prevent another Chico score just before halftime. The Spartans entered their locker room having outgained Chico 201-112, but the problems they had at the start of the first half resurfaced at the start of the second. It took just over a minute into the third quarter before Reid broke off a 40-yard touchdown run for another Chico score. Then two plays into Red Bluff's first possession of the second half the Spartans fumbled again. Ricky Greenwade scooped up the loose ball and brought it down to the Red Bluff 1-yard line before being pushed out of bounds. Chico handed the ball off to Mark Jor- gensen who punched it in and gave the Panthers their second score in 68 seconds and a 34-7 lead It was a hole too deep for Red Bluff to climb out of despite their efforts. Smith scored on a 53-yard end-around to cut the lead back down to 20 points, but once again Reid responded. On fourth-and-three at the Spartans' 39-yard line, he flipped a quick pass out to Disano who took it to the end zone for another Panthers' score. The elusive Smith returned the ensuing kickoff to make it 41-21 and Red Bluff would recover an onside kick attempt, but that's where their night essentially would end. Chico forced Red Bluff to go four-and- out and Reid led the Panthers back down the field for two more scoring drives and a 55-21 lead. Grabfelder capped his night with a sec- ond rushing touchdown for one final Red Week 4 Scoreboard Friday's results Chico 62, Red Bluff 28 Shasta 35, Corning 14 Biggs 30, University Prep 26 Burney 47, Weed 6 Chester 55, Etna 12 Durham 48, Trinity 28 East Nicolaus 19, Colusa 14 Foothill 55, Anderson 21 Gridley 30, Marysville 26 Hamilton 31, Quincy 14 Klamath Union 41, Yreka 17 Lassen 34, Central Valley 14 Lost River 28, Modoc 27 Maxwell 41, Fall River 0 Orland 49, Las Plumas 0 Pierce 21, Live Oak 20 Pleasant Valley 27, Oroville 19 Portola 41, Williams 0 Wheatland 27, Lindhurst 14 Willows 42, Mt. Bluff score with just over 3 minutes left. But that left plenty of time for the Pan- thers' offense, who couldn't be stopped. Chico, reinserted Petery Wysong at quarterback, who had opened the game with a touchdown pass to Aaron Chu, and the Panthers marched the field again hanging one final score on the Spartans. Chico improved to 3-1 with the win — their lone loss coming to a state-ranked Nevada Union side a week ago. Red Bluff fell to 0-4, with four consecutive and bru- tal road games awaiting them — at West Valley, at Lassen, at Paradise and at Foothill. The Spartans' alternated quarterbacks on every drive, but neither Taylor Figgs or Garrett Sandow found much success through the air. Figgs finished 4-for-10 for 16 yards and Sandow was 3-for-7 for 28 yards. Figgs did find some success with his legs, racking up 86 yards on 10 carries. Most of Red Bluff 's offense came through Grabfelder and an offensive line that found room for their bruising tailback through the center of Chico's defense. Grabfelder finished with 137 yards and two scores on 21 carries. Alex Hagen carried three times for 20 yards. Kyle Case had 15 yards on seven carries. Tucker Gulliford had a 6-yard carry and a 9-yard reception. Garrett Spangler caught two balls for 17 yards. Mitch Fox had a 7-yard recep- tion for a first down and Andrew Reedy also caught a ball. Smith finished with an interception, a kickoff return for a score, a rushing touchdown and two catches for eight yards. Niklas Ericsson converted all four of his extra point attempts. Anthony Garaventa recorded a sack for Red Bluff.
