Lambda Chi Alpha - University of Illinois - Champaign, Illinois • Fall 2014 Chi Zetagram Brothers Reconnect at All-Class Reunion T he All-Class Reunion on September 19-20 at the chapter house was the largest gathering of Lambda Chi alumni and undergraduates in chapter history. Over 150 brothers and 30 guests enjoyed a spectacular day of camaraderie, victorious Illini football, and details of plans for the future of Chi Zeta. Brothers enjoyed reminiscing about the old days, brotherhood, great food, and the songs we all remember! Our aging house stood tall and welcomed everyone back to celebrate Chi Zeta's past and provided the perfect setting for discussing our great plans for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha at Illinois. Aer an informal get-together on Friday evening at Joe's, the festivities moved to the chapter house on Saturday with a tailgate party starting at noon. Lunch of burgers and brats was served up by our Brother and Chef Jerry Edwards '05 X1735 and wife Shirley, with help from the undergraduates. An important Alumni Association meeting was then convened in the front room of the chapter house, chaired by President Pete Kale '75 X1020. Current and new alumni board directors were elected, and reviews were given on the financial status of the Alumni B rothers, through the Chi Zetagram, special mailings, e-mails, and our new website, we're committed to giving you candid news about your chapter and brothers. Some of that has been exciting, but recently some was deeply troubling. Now I want to share with you something more personal— one man's insider view of recent events, and what they mean to our future at Illinois. First a spoiler alert: it's all good; you can relax. Well not all good; how we got here was disturbing and must never be repeated, but it leaves today's chapter, our alumni group, and our Brotherhood overall stronger than ever. And that's the foundation we'll build upon. You know by now that in 2012 your Board of Directors, with the guidance of Pete Kale '75 X1020, an amazing leader and friend, reacted to serious problems with our aged house on Armory. Pete initiated a complex study of needs and options to ensure a future for Chi Zeta. at drew me and others from our complacency to step in and help form plans for our future and put them in motion. Brother Dick Prebil '72 X973 gave an important review of the status of recent challenges facing the chapter and pending (now beneficially resolved) charges brought by the university and our comprehensive responses to them. Please see the important letter below discussing the subsequent final outcome, your part in ensuring our future on campus through the new H.G. Menke Mentoring Program, and our plans for building the strongest chapter in our history. e large group then adjourned to attend the Fighting Illini football game against Texas State.
