I've noticed the Holiday lights going up all over Quartzsite, a beautiful sight. The Post Offi ce has started getting lon- ger lines. The stores are busy and RVs are coming in from all directions. And gas costs are down. Yay. It's winter season once again. Welcome everyone! We are all happy to have you come for a visit, stay for a while, or just plain old move in! Enjoy our great weather, the shows coming up and all of the many activities our quaint, quirky town has to offer. If you ever have any questions on the how, who, what, and where, we have the newly turquoise-painted Busi- ness Chamber to go to and if your see one of our Rotarians around town, feel free to ask them. We are here to help our community. On that note, if there are any visiting Rotarians, please come to our meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 5:30 PM at the AWC (Arizona Western College) at 695 N Kofa at West Quail Trail. Please call us fi rst at 928-927-6111 to let us know you're coming and so we can have the right number for our "light" dinners at meetings. Do you remember the Chili Cook Off that the Quartzsite Business Chamber held several years ago? Well, keep your eyes and ears open, tell your friends…and save the date. On Satur- day, February 28, 2015, the Quartzsite Rotary is bringing back the CASI As- sociation (Sanctioned) Chili Cook Off and People's Choice at Tyson Wells Showgrounds! It's going to be a fun, busy day, we guarantee it. In the next few editions of the Desert Messenger, we'll be giving some "tasty details" on the upcoming events going on all day and a few new surprises for the evening also. Stay tuned…until then, we hope you had a warm and fuzzy Thanksgiving weekend with friends and family all around you! AARP FOUNDATION SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR FREE TAX ASSISTANCE AND PREPARATION PROGRAM With nearly 50 million low- to moderate-income taxpayers helped and growing, there are always opportunities for new volunteers. Lack of experience shouldn't stop anyone from volunteering. Tax vol- unteers must complete a tax prepa- ration workshop from the Internal Revenue Service prior to working with taxpayers. Volunteers are also needed to provide technical sup- port at the sites and as greeters to provide language assistance in Spanish. This important work cannot be accomplished without volunteers, ordinary citizens with a willingness to lend their neighbors a hand. Ar- izona's AARP Foundation Tax-Aide sites are in need of new volunteers to join forces with those already working to serve our communities.
