Bob Boyd '68 and Rick Boyd '93 O ne of the largest and most historic Stag Pigs in decades took place on September 26th at The Oread Hotel in Lawrence. Over 170 attended the event, including 90 graduates. While the usual Stag Pig camaraderie and traditions took place, the highlight of the evening was clearly the unveiling of the Mighty Proud capital campaign. John Bumgarner Jr. '64, instrumental in both the project's conceptual design and fundraising, was the keynote speaker. He eloquently outlined the project's design features and how this campaign will truly be a game-changer for Pi Deuteron. He also shared with the audience why Phi Gamma Delta was so important to him over 50 years ago and why it is still important today. Strong showings from the Gold Owl recipients (graduating class of 1968) and the Silver Owl recipients (graduating class of 1993) made it back this year. Woody Davis '52 from Kansas City, Missouri, earned the honor of kissing the pig's snout, while pledge Taylor Eck '18 of West Plains, Missouri, had the distinction of kissing the pig's rear. John Bumgarner was awarded the John Kapfer Award as the Graduate of the Year. Brother Bumgarner was recognized for his tireless leadership efforts in the vision and design of the Mighty Proud campaign. Pi Deuteron was once again truly honored to hear the finest "Exile's Toast" rendition in America by Dave Claflin '85. The admittedly quirky and eclectic speech takes on an entirely new meaning with Brother Claflin's performance. It is never too early to start looking ahead to next year. The graduating class of 1969 will be receiving their Gold Owls, while the graduating class of 1994 will receive their Silver Owls. For other classes considering a reunion, Stag Pig is a perfect time to do it. Next year's date is to be determined, but it will most likely follow recent tradition of being the Friday of Homecoming weekend. We hope to see you there in 2015!
