L ambda Chi Alpha at the University of Oklahoma maintains a tradition of excellence in all we do. From intramurals to community outreach, Lambda Chi is setting the standard by which other organizations measure success. G.P.A. Stays Strong This past year Lambda members had a G.P.A. of 3.129, which was once again higher than both the all-campus G.P.A. and the fourth highest fraternity G.P.A. Our associate class once again ranked as the highest new member G.P.A, furthering the great tradition of academic success Lambda Chi has established over the years. 80% of Members Hold Leadership Positions Our members continue to strive for development of not only themselves, but also the campus and community. Lambda Chi members hold some of the highest leadership positions on campus, including OU IFC president (the fourth Lambda Chi in the past five terms to hold this position), Relay for Life chair, and a member of CAC General Council. In fact, over 80 percent of our members held campus leadership positions in addition to the ones mentioned above, once again showing our commitment to the values of Lambda Chi Alpha. Philanthropy Setting Records We are also proud to say that we have once again set a new record for donations in our main philanthropy. The White Rose Pageant raised over $10,000 for the benefit of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Cleveland County. We also collected 18,000 pounds of food for Lambda Chi's national philanthropy, Feeding America. LCA Dominates Intramural Championship Continuing in the footsteps of the brothers who have come before us, we are proud to say that we won our 21st intramural championship this past year by a margin larger than the second, third and fourth place fraternity points combined. Lambda Chi Alpha continues to shine as the light of the fraternity world as this fall semester begins. We are very appreciative to all the alumni and families that have donated, and we are confident that this will put us even farther above other fraternities on campus. We encourage alumni to tour the completed house and hope this will create excitement in reconnecting alumni with Gamma-Rho Zeta. In Z.A.X., Jimmy Kaczmarek, GR 2430 High Alpha jim@ou.edu lambda Chi alpha pagE 4 I t was the strong bonds of brotherhood between Gamma-Rho Zeta members during recruitment that attracted Courtlyn Shoate, GR 2260, to Lambda Chi Alpha and helped him garner a sense of pride throughout his time as a member. "On the OU campus, LCA has a strong history, which you automatically become a part of and is a very impactful story to your brotherhood. As I grew up past being a freshman I began to take pride in what our class and brothers were able to accomplish, and we were able to make some great impressions to add on to the history of Lambda Chi." Serving as high kappa and high theta gave Courtlyn meaningful leadership experience. "A lot of the things we learned about leadership and development helped me see that I am passionate about developing individuals and had strength in working with people. I got to put into practice a lot of the things I ultimately wanted to do in a career." Courtlyn earned a bachelor's degree in public affairs and administration and his master's in adult and higher education. After graduation he put his leadership and development training to work as a graduate assistant for the Student Life Office at OU and for the last two years has worked as director of student programs for the OU Alumni Association. Courtlyn is still thankful for the brothers who have helped him develop over the years. "Our Chapter advisor, Rodger Lalli, GR 1894, exemplified what it meant to sacrifice for the greater good and what commitment truly looked like. I know he made a huge impression on not just me, but many other members of the fraternity." Since graduation, Courtlyn has stayed very involved with his brothers and the Chapter. He works with the housing board, was on the committee for the renovation, and advises a couple of the Zeta members. His pledge class stays well connected through yearly trips, game days and most recently, weddings. Courtlyn lives in Oklahoma City and enjoys reading, spending time with his friends, and working out.
