PHI DELTA THETA FRATERNITY 5 T he men of Iowa Gamma had a busy spring and summer, and we're excited for what the fall will bring. Here is an overview of some of our main events. GENERAL CONVENTION Iowa Gamma had a strong showing this year at the 2014 Phi Delta Theta General Convention in Las Vegas. Our chapter received the following awards: • Dallas Alumni Award (alumni engagement) • Gold Star Chapter (top 20 chapter of over 160+ chapters) • General Headquarters Trophy (100% reporting) • Biggers Ritual Trophy (sound ritual practices) • Community Service Citation (community involvement) Over the course of the next calendar year we will continue to strive for the Harvard Trophy. Our chapter's involvement on and off campus, as well as success within the Greek community at Iowa State, is at an all-time high. It won't be long until it is back home in Ames! PHILANTHROPIC GIVING During the 2013-14 school year, Iowa Gamma raised $16,044 for various philanthropic organizations. We hope to see this number rise during the 2014-15 year. We are already organizing our philanthropies for this school year. Iowa Gamma has also set a goal of 100% chapter participation in Dance Marathon 2015. General co-director for this event is Brother Austin Javellana 1818. He leads over 250 students serving on committees and has set a goal to raise $1 million for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital through the Children's Miracle Network. Iowa Gamma is excited to assist Austin with this massive project! If you have any interest in donating to Dance Marathon, please contact Austin at austinj@iastate.edu. ACADEMICS Our chapter's G.P.A. for the spring 2014 semester was a 2.90. Unfortunately, we didn't meet our chapter's goal of a collective 3.0. Scholarship Chairman Nate Lenz 1858, Chapter Advisor Steve Good 1645, and I have formulated a new academic success plan for the chapter. This new program focuses on accountability and revamping the academic program for our Phikeia. We're determined to meet our goal of a 3.0 G.P.A. this fall! RECRUITMENT Iowa Gamma is excited about our fall 2014 recruitment class! I'd like to give a huge thank- you to Michael Chapman 1841, Connor Klein 1869, and Thomas Woodruff 1856 for the countless hours they put in this summer pulling together this group of guys. Our recruitment class features several legacies, leaders from major organizations across the state, and high school sports and music standouts. We're looking forward to seeing these men become the greatest version of themselves. If you have any other men you think would be a great contribution to Iowa Gamma, please contact me! Lastly, on behalf of the chapter I'd like to tell our alumni, thank you! It's amazing what a renovation can do for a chapter. Iowa Gamma has absolutely blossomed as a result. Our chapter's presence and involvement on campus have increased. And we've seen massive improvements in regard to recruitment. The new study rooms and cold- air dorms have left a lasting impression on potential new members and their families. We're excited to see how Iowa Gamma grows when the exterior of the chapter facility is renovated in the upcoming years!
