Summer Jam Summer demand increases at Food Bank Quartzsite, AZ - Hospice of Havasu is offering a grief support group at the Quartzsite Library on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 10AM. For more infor- mation, please call 928.453.2111. This is a free Grief Support Group for those in the La Paz County area who have experienced a life-changing loss. If children qualify for services, they will be served at the school closest to them if they are not enrolled in the Head Start pro- gram. This gives them the help early, before school starts in Kindergarten. Quartzsite and Cibola parents are en- couraged to bring their children to the Ehrenberg screening on September 19. Tney will be working with WACOG and hope to hold a spring 2015 event in Quartzsite. Jacque Price, QES Super- intendent said, "We hope that this will become a semi-annual event." Quartzsite - For two months in a row, Yuma Community Food bank, which serves Quartzsite Food Bank, broke the record for the number of residents served. In August the numbers are up for Quartzsite Food Bank. Numbers of people served in town was 415, 60 in Ehrenberg, 45 in Cibola, 20 in Bouse, 9 in Salome, and 2 in Wendon through the Food Bank's Emergency Food Assistance program. The Yuma Sun reported when their staff visited the Yuma facility last week, the coolers were empty, as were several of the bins used for dry goods. "I really want to thank our wonder- ful donors. But, we have an increasing number of La Paz county residents who are struggling to put food on the table for themselves and their families," said Carol Kelley, Director of Quartzsite Food Bank. "We need help!" Many Quartzsite residents, churches and businesses have been very gener- ous this summer, however the demand has increased tremendously. Folks can donate money, or businesses and organizations can organize mini-food drives to encourage donations. Resi- dents can also simply donate what they can from their own pantries. Free screenings for 3-5 year olds Quartzsite - Arizona Western College (AWC) hosts free Healthy Communities Workshops! Healthy Community Workshop. Eating and physical activity patterns that are focused on consuming fewer calo- ries, making informed food choic- es, and being physically active can help people attain and maintain a healthy weight, reduce their risk of chronic disease, and promote overall health- Dietary Guidelines for American 2010 Executive Sum- mary. The guidelines go hand in hand and together provide impor- tant information for developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They are the basis for the "Eat Healthy - Be Active Community Workshops. Workshops will be held Tues- days and Thursdays Sept. 8th - 25th, 2014 at 5:30pm - 6:30pm.
